I agree.
Its just making the gap between rich and poor wider.
People with money will still destroy the earth including the fat cats with their big company cars and private jets.
Yet lesser folk like us will be squeezed of every penny or forced to live without our cars.

Do cars like the flexi fuel focus and biofuel saabs get cheaper tax because they run on E85 hence they are 85% carbon neutral??????
If so that might work with any car!!
It's a blood good excuse to convert your car to run 104ron E85!

Id suggest if you are annoyed about this start by emailing john.gormley@oireachtas.ie with your complaint.

I sent the following email the other night when i heard about the changes as i was planning on buy all my cars in the uk for hte foreseeable future and id like to change my car every few months.

Subject: New motor/c02 tax
To: john.gormley@oireachtas.ie

Mr Gormley,

I am outraged by this new tax system, i find the current tax system to
be somewhat ridicules if not totally unfair but the new system is
simply taking it to a new level. I have a couple questions i would
like you to answer.

Firstly in direct relation to the tax on my car i drive on average 100
kms a week, using 250 grams per kilo that is 25 Kg of co2, yet if i
was driving a more environmentally friendly car giving out 120 grams
per kilo and driving 500 kms a week i would be putting out 60 Kg of
co2. So even though some people are putting out more than double the
amount of co2 than me they are paying five percent of what I will be a
year. Did this not occur to you as this would be the case with a lot
of people in the country especially for motor enthusiasts.

Secondly if i wish to own say five cars in the highest bracket yet
still only drive 100 kms a week in total i will be paying 10,000 euro
a year in road tax. How can you possibly justify me having to do this.
I earn around 20,000 euro a year, should i have to pay half of my
salary in motor tax even though I am still possibly giving out far
less pollution than someone doing higher miles in a one litre car,
giving out more pollution and yet paying one percent of what i am or
should i not be aloud to own five cars in this bracket or maybe you
see it as only wealthy people should be aloud?

Finally i would like to ask why the c02 tax is not charged on fuel so
that you pay for the amount of fuel you use and how much c02 you are
giving out. I am sure this idea has been put to you on more than one
occasion.

I look forward to your response.

Regards

Rowan

has anyone actually realised that we are already paying twice for roadworks
1. we pay tax on the car to help maintain roadworks, and
2 we have to pay at the toll bridges on the motorway also to help maintain the roads with all this money paying for the roads why do we have such bad roads ??? :wall: :wall:
