Been waiting a few weeks for this and near forgot about it. Fly art done this based on an original shot from Kirkistown last year.
Very happy with the result[emoji4]

Cheers lads, when I seen Dec?s I had to get it done.
Always loved that cartoon effect and that guy is very good. I want to get a few prints as the kids want it as posters for their bedrooms[emoji1]

No much going on with the car over the lock-in but I did get my fuel system cleaned out and changed a few pipes around the engine bay that were leaking.

I was waiting on a pod for my boost gauge which landed a few weeks ago. With the back lit gauges the bulb holder is to long so I had to cut a 20mm hole in the back and feed to wire in with copex. Not ideal for a genuine part but it?s a race car so dont really mind.

I also made up a bracket to support the charger inlet pipe, this keeps it up off the water pipes.

While skinning the bonnet I went to mad and left the front very weak.
I had a temp fix on this but now I made a better brace with some 1mm aluminum.

As may have a bit of time before the racing starts again, I have decided to change the rear setup a little.
After speaking to a lot of experts on these cars over the winter, rear ride height was recommended to he slightly higher than the front.
I always had the rear quite low, now by raising the rear I can adjust the front for better corner weight.

I have picked up a set of caster plates from Damion Dixon today, Damian helped with setup last year and is very helpful in this area.
I?m going to spend a bit of for tomorrow adjusting Camber, caster, toe and slightly adjust front ride height.
Once I?m happy I?ll get Damian to corner weight the car at a later stage.
Some adjustments may change but I?m looking at a big change for now and work back from there.

I always used jack stands or paint drums for alignment, but came up with a better solution for this.
At least this is more of a permanent job and a lot more stable, and not 300 quid[emoji28]

1x length of deep uni-strut

4x canter lever brackets 450mm

2x 20mm steel conduit

8x m8 long spring Zebs

8x m8 30mm bolts + washers

12x plastic end caps

2x chalk lines.

All this bits can be got from any good electrical wholesalers. As an electrician I use this stuff a lot, it?s super handy..

20mm hole saw straight through to line up with wheel center. Drill the front posts slightly higher to allow for the caster plates. You could always drill more holes for different height cars or if not using plates.
The trick it to keep them straight using pillar drill.

After checking out the front setup on the car I found some scary results. I should have had at least 3.5 degrees positive caster and found to just have over 2 degrees.
I found I wasn?t over happy with the handling of the car and didn?t know exactly why.

This is the first time I ever had the car on caster plates and, so never actually knew how bad things were. In inspection to see what was causing this I found both wishbones were bent backwards!
I had fitted Polypenco Nylon bushings a few years back any they were still perfect, but the actual steel had bent. I presume a few years of kerb bashing and hard braking on slicks has caused this.

Below you can see how far back the near side wheel was!

So after a lot of research I have decided I can?t fit a standard part here again. I?m new fitting Satchell adjustable front arms. These are a lot stronger and will allow caster adjustments on rear compression strut.

These don?t allow me use the front roll bar so that?s gone in the bin.

Colin Statchell has done testing with and without roll bar and found the roll bar no advantage.
Gaz have recommended a higher front spring rate so I?ll be fitting new springs as part of the new front setup.

My rear roll bar and torsion bars were standard and to small so I went in the hunt to find something a little better. It?s near impossible without spending a fortune on aftermarket parts!
I got lucky this time and a well known rally man with French stuff rang me with a cup spec axel. I removed all the good bits and fitted to my own. This gave me an extra 2mm on all bars and should work a lot better.

These after market parts would be 170 sterling each in the UK so I was very lucky this time.
So I?m looking forward now to getting all this bits together and start building everything back up. Hopefully be testing early July once I get mapped.

So eventually I got my Satchell Engineering front wishbones and new 450lb springs from Gaz.

Today I couldn?t resist getting started on fitting these. I know this initial setup will take me a good few evenings to get right good enough for mapping, but when finished I?ll drop the car back to Damian Dixon for full setup and corner weighting.

Have to say the quality is amazing and everything fitted beautifully. I now have a huge range of adjustments and can really get the wheel pushed forward for lots of positive caster.

I?m a hard man on plant but I?m pretty sure even I couldn?t break these:)

You can see how far back my wheel was with the old original bent wishbones. Crazy how much they moved.

Below is the same wheel but much more centered in the arch and giving a much nice angle on the strut. This should give a much more pointy front end, and really help flick around the new tighter rear end.

Finally it?s all back together and ready for mapping ?again? in a way I was lucky with the aul virus as it gave me more time to find the issues I did.

Really happy with the setup and stance of the car now, originally it was way to low at the front.
It?s now just 15mm higher at the rear as I?m told they should be. It will still be heading down to Damian Dixion for final setup but for now I?m happy that it?s well good enough for Dyno and testing.

It?s very dirty inside and out so I?ll have to give it a good clean up.
Can?t wait to get it mapped as it?s nasty rough and rich and probably pissing 102 through herself:)

Not sure if I?ll make the race event on the 26th as I?m up to my eyes with a few things going on in the background, but I?m not ruling it out..

Been super quite on there lately with this project due to lack of time really. I had it down with Westward for mapping but had to take it home due to injector issues.

Thankfully I got that sorted and back into Martin for mapping. The car is making great power and probably too much being honest. It made 260bhp at 6k rpm and was running out of fuel as I went back to a standard Focus ST injector.

The plan is to fit a bigger charge pulley and run less boost as it?s over 1 bar at the moment. Hopefully .8 would leave it around 240/250 at full rev range.
It will be interesting to say the least:)

Cheers lads if I can reduce to a safer 240 I?ll be very happy.
Couldn?t believe the power it was capable of making. Martin said if he kept going it could have made 280[emoji28]
