Ken Block's Escort Cosworth 2.0

any tarmac rally iv done iv only ever wanted to enjoy it and have fun , once i wasnt last and finished i was happy
are you saying i shouldnt bother if i cant afford a car competitive enough to win ?
strange view on motorsport

how did ken block make his money?
i dont pay to much attention to him
Nope not what I'm saying at all. If your only entering for "the craic" your mindset entering any Motorsport event is wrong from the get go. Anyone that enters a Motorsport event has should have the mind set that they are there to compete properly and attempting to win, and also have aspersions to win, regardless of budget or equipment.

Sorry now but your talking shite scrawnbawn . You don?t like him fair enough . But your view is crazy saying that if your not there to win you shouldnt be there . Says who you . People compete for all kinds of reasons . They like it . It’s good crack , they want to get better . It’s enjoyment for everyone in different ways And that’s what makes it interesting

That's not what I said.

Isn't the definition of all Motorsport to compete and be be first past the post? Excuse me here for being synical but if your not racing to win and be competitive, what's the point? If you want to be entertaining go drifting.

I think it is what you said .

Nearly every one on this forum would give anything to Do the kilarney or Donegal rally , would it matter where they came no the fact the did it and hopefully finished it would be winning enough .

They would still be competing to try and win. And wouldn't be entering for the 'craic', be it class win or over all win. Any way back to Ken block, it's just marketing exercise. Pure and simple.

He has the money , sponsorship and talent to do what he wants really so I?ll look forward to seeing him there

Money and sponsorship yes.... talent? You can't be serious? Just because you've got an editing wizard to make you and upload amazing looking eye candy Xbox PS4 style Uber cool you tube videos for you....does not mean you have talent. Go and look at his Wrc record.

You see this is the thing , on one hand you?re giving out that unless you are out to win there is no point competing and now you?re saying look at his records and how many crashes he has in the Wrc :dontknow:
which do you want all out for the win or bring it home safe .

I get it that you don?t like him . You recon you could drive as good as him ??

To say the man has no talent is jus silly, c'mon

Someone take the shovel off him

Lol

Whole lot of Ricky Booby going on here tonight!

?If your not first your last?!!!

Leave rich Ken alone, sure he?s only spending his money and giving us all a laugh.
Plus building some serious cars along the way.

@Scrawnbawn, did you ever compete in any from of motorsport? Just trying to get your view on your opinion about competing to win only?

I understand what your saying, he's never going to get s factory seat in a wrc car but it's not like that for everyone.

Example, there's 22500 people going to be running the Dublin city marathon this year but at the start line only about 5/6 lads know they have a chance of winning. People compete for different reasons.

I'm sure if I had the money I'd be going around the world in a group A Impreza driving my favorite rallyes if I could regardless of how sh*t I'd be.

I like him as his personality and character is good, as far as his gymkhana goes he's deadly at it but maybe given his rallying history it doesn't look good for a finish. But will be good promotion for the donegal rally

I like him as, at a time when the whole world is turning against the ?evil motor car? he?s still inspiring young people to be interested. Whilst not everyone is going to like his style, the world and young people have moved on. Block and Mad Mike are the Burns & McRae of the Red Bull/PS4/Xbox generation.

If they kindle an interest in cars, driving and performance then that?s good enough for me. As for the sponsorship - it?s how they make a living and the last time I looked, all rally cars were fairly well emblazoned with stuff. They don?t personally push products, they just wear a logo in exchange for making a living. No issue with that personally.

Also, great point by Duffman - I?ll be one of the 22,500 in the marathon for the 4th time, I?m doing it for the challenge and achievement and to beat my last time, I?m never going to be within even an hour of the winner but that?s not the point - I like running and challenging myself.

I saw the above on Facebook thought might lighten the mood .

Personally don?t get the hate , if he has the money and he?s enjoying it let him at it .
Sure he?s not at the top level but he can drive and you can?t dispute that , even wizards of car control make mistakes and crash .
I?m glad he?s coming to challenge the Donegal stages and I hope he does well .
As Joe said we?d all give a bollock to do Molls gap or any of the famous stages. It?s a privilege to drive them and winning is a bonus .

fire up your motorsport record
starts / finish

with this kind of advice / tips you are give on here it must be impressive

When i drove over molls gap in 2017 my mindset was , **** this is class , i was buzzing for days after it , if my mindset was to win the rally in my shitty civic , or try win class 11f which im sure you know is the most competitive class with 11r , then i would have been very dissapointed as i cant afford a 30k or 40k plus civic / escort.

This thread has all the regulars fired up!

We got to the end of Letterleague the first time through on last year's Donegal and the two time keepers burst out laughing with the roars from the car at the stage finish. We were after driving the nuts out of a relatively standard Impreza and gobbling up Evo 9's. And we got to do it again on the Saturday.

Sometimes I wonder if the R5 boys are loosing out on some of the fun. Competing at that level is very expensive. Those 4 corners cost a lot. A wing for an Impreza is ?60. As a spectator I will applaud any driver who is trying..... from a 1.4 Nova up to an S12B.

I'm half way through a year of nixers just to get the chance to do it again. Unfortunately Ken Block's announcement means that I, or another clubman might not get an entry for this year. You never know - he might opt to do "00"

Can everyone agree its the only place to be this June? Accommodation is booking out fast!
