anyone know what the story with new car prices from July with the new VRT changes. Will some cars come down in price . how will it be for for imports that were first registered before July

New cars will have C02 rating cards and the ones with low emmissions will be slightly cheaper. Ones a car is registered before the last day in june the new system will not effect it

Hello Gerry,

The VRT will be on a sliding scale depending on CO2 emissions

Even the standard 2008 WRX will suffer very badly with both VRT and motor TAX

The motor tax will be €2,000 per year, so I don't think you will see a lot of them sold  :dunno:

As for secondhand imports AFAIK they will be graded in the same format as new cars  :ponder:

So if you are looking to import a car, do it before July and get it registered

This new tax format could potentially kill both new and second hand imports of high powered jap cars, as who would pay €2k per year in motor tax along with all the other costs associated with running a high powered car

It will also have implications with regards to the existing "Irish Registered" fleet. As their tax on a 2.0lt with be appox €600 per year, there will be more demand for them compared to the fresh imports with the €2K yearly sting

Cheers,

Michael

so even if you import a car lets say its a 05 one and you import it after july you'll have to pay the big tax on it
