[size=12pt]This selection is a mixture of different failure pics from different model subarus that we have come across over the last 6 months @STi TUNING.

Just to give people an insight of wat these terminal failures look like and most are preventable.

‎99% Have reason why. poor servicing and oil quality, low oil, Detonation etc etc

There some nasty pics but all in all as you say Dave all preventable. :subaru:

Great pics doe off all different failures. :thumbsup:

@Keith

Not all preventable. Subaru are not the most reliable car on the road as much as we try convince ourselves otherwise ha ha.

@bug-eye09

All failures above are not related to open/semi/closed deck. They all still would have happened in a closed deck.

that engine failure was not a cracked cylinder wall. More a cracked wall as a result of a failure if you get me. Severe detonation and heat to piston. Although a closed deck would not have cracked the cylinder wall would have been so badly damaged that the block would have been scrap in anyway.

So as above would not have mattered weather was open/semi or closed deck in there.

Ouch :doh:

Hi Dave
Can you tell us if any of those pics are from cars which were under stress as in dragging/circuit racing at the time they let go,or were they everyday road cars. I think it would be interesting to know if it's not confidential please.

Every one of them road cars. None were high bhp. Melted pistons pics were from a b4 and sti 6.

Dropped valve sti 5. Bottom rod brake sti4. Hole middle oilly block standard 2002 b4.

Burnt exhaust valve 2004 type 25 which currently building.

One with cracked wall but as above wasnt cause of failure totally standard 97 legacy gtb.

Big end bearings is the bearing connecting conrod to the crankshaft. Through detonation or oil flow issues can fail. The metal to metal contact when fails can stress and heat the rod and can bend or brake and say hello through the block casing!
