Can an Irish garage do an MOT for a UK car

Im not a member on Scooby net so can't reply to the lad!!!!
It would be useful for him to know that normal garages in Northern Ireland cannot MOT a car the same way as they can in the UK, MOT's are carried out in specialised Centres (very similar to NCT centres). All he needs to do is contact the MOT centre in Newry and tell them he is here on long term business but is staying in hotels, they should be able to give him a date for the test then!!!!
