The production-ready model follows the concept shown at the Detroit motor show in January and it is set to go on sale in the UK in September.
A naturally aspirated 2.5-litre flat four producing 170bhp and a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre flat six engine producing 256bhp will be available for the US market, alongside a turbocharged boxer flat four, which produces 287bhp.
Subarus 2.0-litre boxer diesel is also likely to be offered for the UK market.
The revised chassis should improve steering response and ride quality, and 16-inch alloy wheels are fitted as standard.
The new Legacy is larger compared with the outgoing model, with a 2750mm wheelbase and a 1565mm track.
Styling is more aggressive than before, with sharper lines, flared wheel arches and twin front grilles.
