Legacy GT P1410 secondary air injection system fault

Car threw up a engine light during the week just after a cold start. Scanned it and to find it was a fault with the secondary air injection valve stuck open.
I cleared the code but has re appeared on a few occasions after a cold start.
After a bit of research (and to educate myself to what this actually was) it seems to be very common issue with post 2006 Subarus with this system.
The only purpose it serves is to inject air into the exhaust manifold for about 60 seconds after a cold start to reduce emissions.
Common solution seen online is to use blanking plates and to map out and remove the system.
Has anyone else had issues with this system? If so how did you resolve it?
 
Map it out is the cheapest and easiest option
Don't think the blanking plate is realy required
Just flash the code out
