Idling Fluctuation [99 Turbo 2000. GC8]

Guys,
Thought I would post my experience over the last number of days to expand the database for those in need.

Problem Statement:
Engine idle erratic when fully warmed up. Hunts in rev range, 500 rpm <->1200 rpm approx.The hunting has a cadence to it. After prolonged driving or motorway driving the problem deteriorates. The revs plummet to zero when engaging the clutch at traffic lights, on occasion the engine will cut out. Typically there is no information from the dash, no check engine indicators.


Root Cause:
MAF


PS:
The driving character of the engine has improved greatly since the new MAF was installed. I now realise that the MAF may have been deteriorating over time unbeknownst to me.


FYI:
My car is a 1999 Irish Turbo 2000 model. 150K miles. Original engine, no engine mods. Exhaust mod = SS Mid Section + Back Box replaced 18 years ago when I bought the car.

Previously replaced parts on failure:
1. MAF @ 30K miles
2. O2 Sensor @ 121K miles
3. Ignition Cables @ 137K miles
