You have to to pay your VRT.

The RA i had spent a night in the Garda pound for not been VRT'd I just payed the VRT the following day and showed them the receipt and they released it with no further payment.

galway the pri*k was waking past me in town and he stop me i want in to day to pay the vrt and da sad that the cops ar gave it over to the Customs and that da ring me 2 moro be cos da will want to no y i haven pad the vrt i think dere going fock me over big time whats the worst da can do ( sorry about my spelling )

Not to sure. How long have you got the car.

You could say you had it lying up and where saving for the VRT but they'll just shoot you down with the fact you where out in it. You have grace the day you buy the car to get it to a safe place until it's VRT'd.

You might want to get legal advice from a professional.
