Hi, my name is Ciaran and this is my first post (unfortunately a painful one).
At the start of the month I bought a 1998 version 4 Wrx from someone on this forum. The for sale ad is actually still up.
Anyway, last week I brought the car for a service to have piece of mind. So oil, filter and plugs were done. The oil that came out was quite thick (I found a receipt stating that 15w50 was last used). A day later a knock started in the engine coming from the drivers side between 2000-2600rpm. I brought it back to the mechanic today would had a listen around with a stethoscope. He said its coming from the cam area on the drivers side and also showed the car to a engine rebuild specialist who confirmed the same thing. I have been quoted €800 to take out the engine and fully pinpoint the problem.
I'm not too sure what I should do next. Has anyone had similar problems?
