Porsche has been known for restraining the other sporty models like Boxster and Cayman in order to avoid undercutting performance of their flaship 911.
It seems like it's not the case anymore
The new Cayman GT4 has been developed by Porsche Motorsport - the same team which worked on 991 GT3 and GTR cars. It inherited the best from GT3 like the front suspension, the electric steering (apparently tuned even better in regards of responsiveness and feel) and the brakes.
The 3.8 6cyl engine inherited from Carrera S and developing 380 bhp has been installed in the centre of the car for ideal weight distribution.
For the best driving experience they decided to equip it with a 6gear manual instead of the PDK automatic gearbox like in 911 GT3, however there are rumors the automatic option may become avaialble later.

And the best of all - the price - £65k where the cheapest Carrera is around £71k and GT3 prices start at £100k, make the Cayman GT4 a good value for money.
