1993 WRX RA shell, worth bothering with?

Sunday Drivers
Just looking for your opinions on this one. I know of a early WRX ra shell that I could get for very little, rust free and never crashed.

It's got its interior intact, but would need a new engine, I was thinking a blob sti or similar seeing as it's not standard anyway.

Just wondering do you think with the costs involved would I just be better to wait for a complete car, or is the opportunity to build up a car from nothing exactly as I'd want it the way to go?

What would you do?!!!

Suppose it would depend on a few factors.
Price of the RA she'll you can get.
Is the RA the car you really wanted?
Then exactly what's needed and what your finished budget would be?

more information is really needed... Is it needing gear box aswell? We're you thinking of up grading brakes to new age? Etc etc

Biggest question is can you do all the work yourself and have you time and room for 2 cars to swap stuff over. if the anser is yes to them 2questions it's down 2 price you get them for then I.d say go for it.
I.d buy a car with an engine gone and build 1 rather than buying a running car then the engine blowing

From my experience with project cars buying the car is the cheapest part. Whatever you are thinking its going to cost to put on the road, double it! And the same goes for your time estimation too!!

Bought my 2000 wrx ra for 1450 € with blown engine
Had planned around 3 grand to get her runnin std
Things change sometimes so do plans I've passed 12000 now and more to do

i can get it cheap, I mean real cheap, so that isn't the issue.

I have space, or should I say, I can make space so that shouldn't be an issue. And either own or have have access to tools necessary, another non issue I think.

And the final factor is that the car was the first scooby I drove, the first one I was passenger in while properly experiencing some of what they could do, about 12 years ago.

Also, what I really want is an early car, the dream is a V2 STI v limited, but I wouldnt modify one of them, so perhaps this ra is even more up my street.

The cost to do it would be high, and I wouldn't be cutting corners, but for around €6k I'd be thinking you'd have an incredible car (forget resale, that's not my aim!)

Sounds like you have an answer, good luck with the build :subaru:

Ha! I would love it!

I was expecting someone to say "don't do it because..."

The clear out is going to have to happen sooner than I thought so!

Well if your that attached to the car then economical sense doesnt come into it lol..

You could just go out and by a Bugeye sti... And transfer everything into it... Everything, spend a few quid and fit a Syvecs and run avcs... Or do some messing with wiring and use bugeye ecu and front part of loom... Personally I would go the syvecs route... But I think for around the 6-7k Mark after you sell the bits you don't need it will be done well... And you will have a very quick very cool RA for yourself

The aftermarket ecu is the way to go I think alright. And never fear, I'd be looking for plenty of advice and bits and bobs from here!

The guy who has it currently is my buddies uncle, I hoping he'll hand it over as he has drained it for all he wanted and has no intention of putting it back on the road.

Well, he is willing to sell for a small fee, and he does indeed have the logbook.

Only issue is I promised my wife I wouldn't add to my collection any more cars, so I'm going to have to sell something!

Looks like there will be a nice mk1 golf gti for sale soon...

selling a mk1
id say you would regret that
would you not try and persuade her
a shell isn't a car really is it

You are very right!

I think I would indeed regret selling it. I've had it 11 years, but driven only a few 1000 miles in it ever, had my escort 10 years and have done over 20k miles in that. I don't think there is an enormous rush on making a move on the scooby, as there are very few people know it's whereabouts!

Either way I need to tidy up the fleet!
