Re: 18" forged oz racing wheels for sale

Jonathan,

These look like Magnesium wheels... I'm assuming this from your description that they are "seriously lightweight"... and also as they look like fatigue fractures that are common on magnesium alloys. Magnesium has a tendency to deteriorate and these hairline fractures in the rims are common place on them. Is there an offset marking on them... ET marking...?

Jamie.

Re: 18" forged oz racing wheels for sale

I think you could be spot on.Had a look at the wheels there and Mg (the chemical sybol for magnesium) is printed on all 4.no offset marked on them.Had one on my car a while back to see what they looked like.Id say they are around a 48 offset

There a great rim you have yourself there. I've a set of Mag Speedlines with similiar fractures in the lip.

Hey Jonathan,

Unfortunatley there is no one here in Ireland that can mend them. I've spent some time trying to source someone that can mag weld with mag/zinc rods and to no avail!

Eventually I found a guy in the UK who repairs all Mag wheels for rally teams... he'll mag weld them... strip them properly and powder coat them.

You can't just paint mag wheels either ... they need to be stripped in a certain way and treated prior to painting otherweise the paint will blister off in no time!

If there not done right... you might aswell bin them. They guy in the UK wasn't too pricey... buy getting them over makes it a bit expensive. :icon_rolleyes:

Regards,

Jamie

They can be fixed... and need to be Magnesium welded. If a standard alloy welding rod is used... it'll burn straight through them!

You would need to get the fractures welded as they tend to leak the air out of your tyres... and of course are weak spots on your wheels!

Jesus Jonathan... these are a fu*king bargain. :eek7: If only they where 17's I'd snap these up for my Wagon. Just can't run 18"'s on an everyday car and they are the wrong offset for wide arch project.

If someone buys these... I'll split the shipping costs to UK to get em repaired with my own Speedlines via a mates haulage company. I've the contact there to get these repaired right!

I'd imagine to repair the 4 wheels would be about 250 sterling... which still makes these one hell of a lightweight, rare and very cheap wheel! :shock2:
