Came home yesterday and the wife had gone and bought me a full breed german sheapard I havnt had a dog of my own since I was a kid shes beautiful.

Have always wanted one of them, fella down the road from my parents trains them for the airport police. She's gorgeous, congrats

No they're very intelligent and have a good memory so won't take too long to get her trained up.
I'd advise you give her calcium tablets for a while that will help strengthen her bones. Giving them milk can sometimes give them the runs... Get her out through plenty of people and kids too get her used to different faces too.

German Shepards are one of the easiest dogs to train you can get!
But they pick up bad habits easily! That said, they have 1 master who they will obey religiously and depending on the individual animal they might accept instruction from 1 more person!

Simple things like walking them in busy pedestrian areas from an early age, and standing close to the school gates as kids run out to head home will help with their socialisation!

We have had a fair few full breed and a few half breed shepards thru the years at the home place there!

Thinking of getting one myself, but I'd want a long haired Male!
Read up on the breed as there are a few diseases they are susseptible too and a few things you need to be aware of to keep your puppy right!

Calcium supplements are a good idea as lotto suggested, speak to your local vet about them before you go for it tho! There are a few brands out there that aren't worth the money you'll pay for them!

Don't encourage her to start jumping too early either as she could possibly damage her rear hips

Few other things like that are worth reading up on!!!

Thank you all for your good advice I have 2 books here and the Mrs was a Vet nurse back in the day so I hope we can keep the pup happy and train her well, again thanks so much for all advice and keep it coming cheers.

I've had one for 5 years and they are by far the best dog I've ever had....

Best of luck with her
