Legacy 1999 B4 Estate Turbo, currently manual gearbox. Engine replacement needed – revision B.

QUESTION: Can I swap EJ206 engine from Rev D (from 2001 model) into 1999 rev B, using rev B inlet manifold, wiring loom and ECU, I think I will have to swap over cam and crankshaft pulleys and sensors.

I know Ej206 is from auto gearbox model.

The concern is I read on forums, that rev A and B have a compression ratio of 8.5:1 while revs C and D have 9:1 (and pretty much anything in between).

I was trying to find out by comparing part numbers on websites, but it doesn’t give any more confidence.

Research brings up the question as per above.

Looking into replacement options. Would EJ206 from 2001 model fit? It is revision D.

Heads have H20B stamps, ECU is 1Y 22611AG451

Engine came out from rev D shape and was manufactured July 2001 – everything indicates it is rev D.

Pistons seem to be “flat” while inspected with USB camera.

Few forums (ie. uklegacy.com, clubsub.org.nez,) came out that revision A and B engines (EJ206/208 )have a compression ratio of 8.5:1, while revisions C and D have 9:1 – still trying to get definite answer.

I included only few sources, but I reviewed more than below.
  1. https://legacypic.uk/car/specs.php?id=273 – this website says different compression ratios rev A, B vs C,D
  2. https://sl-i.net/FORUM/showthread.php?20165-So-you-ve-bought-youself-a-JDM-twin-turbo-eh – some variation of difference
  3. http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php?/topic/120558-bebh-b4gtb-rev-a-d-whats-the-difference/

But on the same forums people say they are 8:1 and 9:1 or only EJ206 had 8:1 and Ej208 have 9:1 – you can find anything you want.

PISTON PART NUMBERS – DON’T REALLY SAY THEY ARE INTERCHANGEABLE.

I think below part numbers are for standard size pistons:
