Hello All, Hope you’ve all had a great Christmas!
My son has a 1999 GC8 2L Turbo and we were chatting about prepping it for track day and/or rallying. Has anyone any advice what to do and what not too, please. What roll cage is the best and most affordable?
Appreciate your thoughts

Is it being turned into a dedicated track car ?

Basic list to consider for Mondello being a tight track , hard on tyres and extremely hard on brakes

-Baffled sump or baffle plate (minimum)

-Decent size catch can preferably with return to sump

-Oil pressure and oil temperature gauges decent brand as they are more accurate

-Coolant temperature gauge

-Thermostatic oil cooler, not essential but as he starts to go faster it will be needed

-Decent pads front and rear , a pad with a stronger bite in the back will help with not overheating on the front , consider larger brakes will allow you to stay out for more laps due to more thermal mass .

-Tyres , Nankang ns2 budget/ Toyo r888r medium range and Yokohama A052 high end

- if it’s a dedicated track car , decent seats and harnesses will allow more control and less fatigue as you’re not sliding around

Great Baz thanks for all that info!
It will be dedicated.
And roll cage bolt in ?

A bolt in cage will be fine but if the budget allows and the cars is not going back on the road possibly a weld in , it’s really up to yourself.

Go through all your fluids and replace the radiator if it’s original , check over all coolant hoses , check for oil leaks (rockers covers, cam and front/rear crank seals
