Watch for any hesitation under acceleration,clunking rear diff,gearbox noises,knocking from the engine,make sure you get to start the car up from stone cold. Careful of rust if its an import. Look for excessive white or blue smoke on start up or under load. Check for oil in the water or vice versa,try and get some service history and enquire about fuel used.
