ThreeBond on Camshaft/Crankshaft seals

pugtk

Sunday Drivers
Doing the timing belt/water pump/oil pump etc. this weekend and i'm going to change the camshaft/crankshaft seal as well when im there.

I don't want to have any leaks in a couple of weeks, so do many lads put a smear of threebond on the outside of seals?

I know there is an argument as to just install seals with and without sealant, But the last thing I want is to have to change them in a couple of weeks.

Which I have seen happen where new seals are installed without sealant and start pissing.

If your talking about the outer edge of the seals , personally I wouldn’t, and it could still piss from the inner part of the seal where it meets the surface of the crank/camshaft.
Use some clean oil on the inner and outer edges, don’t fit the seal dry

Also inspect the surface on the crank/camshaft they may need a rub of some fine emery cloth
