I did it! I just bought myself Fiesta that will become dedicated track car - regardless of success or power, I expect heaps of fun!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMBHx94dFdU&feature=youtu.be

Its the first step, loooooooooooooooooong way to go before it gets anywhere, but it drives, everything works, tax and NCT still valid - so road legal car.

Tomorrow, I will start stripping it down, remove any and every weight, including powersteering, aircons, ABS, etc. First to remove everything, go for trackday, then start adding stuff that should help with handling and braking:)

Really excited about my new project!

Specs(not sure about these, but think google is correct):
Ford Fiesta 2001 LX
1.25 Zetec Engine
75hp
FWD
Has annoying radio(not for long, anyone wants to buy?)
Handbrake works
Pulls nicely and evenly all way up through RPM

Lets see where this takes me:)

Speaking of which, anyone got any decent race seat? One and cheap will be plenty :)

What size waste are you
I have 2 sparco seats but i think it was a greyhound that was driving the car

Just a suggestion but before you go mad with modding it for track, have you looked into the fiesta endurance challenge that mondello run every year? It’s supposed to be great craic and a great entry into racing, mods to the car are kept minimal - you need a roll cage, racing seat and other safety stuff but apart from that, wheels and tyres, the rest is stock enough - you could go mad with it after that. Details are on the mondello website

Yes Fozzy, thats the reason why I bought this car - not only endurance but Zetec Championship as well, the requirements are identical to entry, so plan is to build it throughout this season, learn how to drive it, make Racer Licence, and try to qualify for next years Zetec championship, Zetec endurance, and/or future classics - will see how it goes, but thats the plan at least:)

I had a 1L petrol one of these as my first car. Had to really push it to its limit to get any power. Big fun but painfully slow when you needed power. Best of luck. You have 0.2 more litres than me though!

Well done lad. Delighted to see you take the plunge. No stopping you now! ????????????. Tidy car too, and handles very well. You will have a ball in it! What day have you picked for your first outting? Im booked in for the 16th April

:clap:Best of luck with it  look forward to the updates and progress . Keep a log of the costs involved as a lot of lads would be intrested in this depending on costs

Sheriff: Supposedly the Zetec engine is much better than the 1.0 engine, we shall see tho:)

Ciaran: You bet! you and your damn porn made me do this!

Martin: No day yet, I was hoping to be able to make it 2nd April, but given the fact that I blocked my back today, I didnt really do any work on the car yet, so I guess maybe the 16th April will be more suitable and will give me little more time to prep the car.

Scooby: That is great idea, I will deffo keep them bills so there is some overview of how expensive it is to get into semi serious tracking

Good stuff man fair play ???? thought had crossed my mind once or twice too, be interested to see the costs and stuff myself also. Looking forward to the read man ????

Still havent started the build, but hopefully this long weekend will have 1 nice day where I can start.

I started thinking of what will most likely need to be done outside of stripping.

First, I will probably need to upgrade to some proper tyres. Those are important
Second will probably be suspension upgrade - something that will stiffen the car and maybe even sets it a tad bit lower
Third will have to be brakes. Will see how the car will perform with current setup(calipers front, drums back) and then upgrade for braided lines, high temperature fluid and proper pads. Will see how car performs then and if I am not happy then upgrade rear drums to rotors

In the meantime, I will have to fix some rust issues on the car, its just surface, but still needs attention(more in pictures), planning to do a wrap and possibly some nice stickers to make the car stand out.

Performance wise - not yet sure, but catalyst will go out first thing, probably get better sounding high-flow exhaust and maybe intake could help, but the options here are very limited.

I have the same car. Very fun car. It sounds great without the factory air box. I am just fixing some dents and hopefully a respray one day. I have even put an RS badge on for the craic.
