Thanks, the XT’s are a long story. I have three, two of them are the normal version and the third one is a really rare Version 2 or 87.5 as they are known. The biggest problem with these cars and all pre 2001 Subaru’s is that there was hardly any rust prevention. One of the XTs is too rusty but it’s engine runs well and is good for parts, especially for the second one, which is the same car, it too has rust but is not bad. The rare 87.5 has been fully stripped and all the bodywork is done on it and the sunroof removed by a place outside Belfast (another long story) it then went to Ali Burrows who serviced it but it always had an electronic problem with it’s very basic ecu so it is at an electrical specialist which they say they have now solved. It now needs to be painted and put back together. Yes they are really, really rare but more significantly they were the first permanent all wheel drive turbo car Subaru ever made. It wasn’t until 1986 that Porsche released the 959 as the first supercar with all wheel drive, adjustable suspension, a boxer engine and hailed for having an aerodynamic Cd of only 0.31, the Subaru XT had all these and a CD of only 0.29 in 1985 plus in the states it had an amazing digital dash! Of course the XT didn’t have the engine the Porsche 959 had but it is significant that it had everything else the 959 had that was hailed as so significant. The Subaru XT 87.5 has a much better engine management and a better turbo so has more power and permanent all wheel drive with diff lock and I think lsd?

Both of these reviews are from the best in period car review website (warning this will take up days of your time once you start looking at it!) I think I should put this link on the front page as well, really brilliant site:
