Superb Original Subaru STi €5k Service Unmodified

Hopefully this makes near the asking price. Makes the more limited edition models worth more :)

Best of luck with sale

Don't worry it won't be that long before we are reminiscing about how cheap these cars were, especially the rare ones, and how expensive they have become! Look at all the poor Porsche 911 air cooled owners who were selling their cars for £15k+ not that long ago!

" I can’t remember the last time I saw an STi around south Dublin, especially one in the classic WR Blue colours with the gold wheels!"

Keep an eye out for me or just listen......

Lovely car hope you get the money for it.

Always have my eye out for any Subaru!

very nice SK

hopefully you get the price for it as they are going up and getting harder to get best of luck with the sale.

the XT sounds sweet, whats the plans for it and any pictures, id say there like hens teeth towards the impreza

Thanks, the XT’s are a long story. I have three, two of them are the normal version and the third one is a really rare Version 2 or 87.5 as they are known. The biggest problem with these cars and all pre 2001 Subaru’s is that there was hardly any rust prevention. One of the XTs is too rusty but it’s engine runs well and is good for parts, especially for the second one, which is the same car, it too has rust but is not bad. The rare 87.5 has been fully stripped and all the bodywork is done on it and the sunroof removed by a place outside Belfast (another long story) it then went to Ali Burrows who serviced it but it always had an electronic problem with it’s very basic ecu so it is at an electrical specialist which they say they have now solved. It now needs to be painted and put back together. Yes they are really, really rare but more significantly they were the first permanent all wheel drive turbo car Subaru ever made. It wasn’t until 1986 that Porsche released the 959 as the first supercar with all wheel drive, adjustable suspension, a boxer engine and hailed for having an aerodynamic Cd of only 0.31, the Subaru XT had all these and a CD of only 0.29 in 1985 plus in the states it had an amazing digital dash! Of course the XT didn’t have the engine the Porsche 959 had but it is significant that it had everything else the 959 had that was hailed as so significant. The Subaru XT 87.5 has a much better engine management and a better turbo so has more power and permanent all wheel drive with diff lock and I think lsd?
Here is an in period review of the first XT: https://www.flickr.com/photos/triggerscarstuff/sets/72157609063957078

Both of these reviews are from the best in period car review website (warning this will take up days of your time once you start looking at it!) I think I should put this link on the front page as well, really brilliant site:

Thanks Jock, whatever you do don't click on the link above with all the old car reviews, you'll never do any work for the rest of the week! The two tone ones are very of the time, one of mine is two tone, one blue and one white, can't wait to see what they are like - I've never even driven one of them!

Hi Jamie

I wish I had, I did get the contact details of the guy who bought it and had a long complicated conversation with him about possibly buying it, he was keeping it in a shed and hadn't done anything with it. That was a pretty good one as far as they go but would still have needed a lot of money spent on it. He also had another rusty one, I know of another guy, somewhere around Meath I think, who has two of them as well. Has anyone ever seen one driving?

Thanks

S.

A mate had been asked to sell it on behalf of the owner... there was a a pair of them on offer I gather... husband and wife cars... bought together from new. Silver one was the better of the two.

Yes, I don't know about the other one but the silver one was a good car and I think was one of the Series II cars, it had an 89/90 plate, I can't remember which but it should have been one of the later ones. The only problem is no matter how good they look on the outside it is only when you start taking them apart that you really see the rust but it was a very good starting point and probably one of the best XT coupes I've seen come up for sale and Irish registered! I wish that had been the first one I had bought!

Saw this car around rathmines once, not sure exactly when but I think in the last year, looked spotless.

Yes, that's me, live in Dublin 6, essential to have a Subaru STi for all the bad weather, snow and mud we get here!

Thanks
