Timing belt kit

Hi lads Subaru is nearly due timing belt kit to be done. I rang motor factors where I buy my stuff he quoted me on a blue print brand kit I asked for a gates kit but he said no difference 45€ in price between the two for idlers tensioner water pump and belt. Think I got a good enough price €480 for kit coolant and need two rear wheel bearings as well all in price any thoughts and comments appreciated thanks

OEM belt is Dayco. The blueprint could be a gates, they essentially just rebox the parts. It'd be fine. However, I'd be wary of the tensioner/idler and pump.

If you are not doing it yourself talk to dave or ciaran l think they had set prices for tbelt job. Also check ASPerformance in UK:

Sound tommy it's probably not much in the difference but just to be sure parts are up to quality of stuff there is a gates kit on car at moment I have an order with them for other bits might ring and see just need water pump as well and get the whole lot together thanks

Graham Goode Racing reasonable for kits, even better if you have Irish VAT number.

I don't mind being corrected.

Mitsuboshi belt would make sense as they supply OEM for a lot of JDM. However, I didn't pull that from thin air. It was stated in a thread on here by Ciaran that OE is Dayco. You also commented on the thread but didn't make the correction at the time, so it was fair for me to think that they are Dayco.

Possibly Dayco where/are used for the USDM EJ257?

Ciaran who???

And i have zero issue with Dayco use. Lasting its design provided installed in correct manner

But i am pretty happy never said an original subaru belt

Thanks Gary. I know feic all but I'm always willing to help and I've a good memory and anyone that I lean a bit of trust to I'll rely on them. I'm not a mechanic, and nowhere near to a Subaru specialist especially, but I wont see someone stuck if I can help out or guide them.

Must be true so

Dave, I hope I'm in the wrong (I'll admit if I am) but I don't get your angle here? What you don't know about Subaru can be written on a postage stamp. I can't write anything because I don't know what I don't know. I know far less than someone in the trade and a lot less than someone who specialises in Subaru.

I've never changed a belt on an EJ from Japan, so I couldn't tell you what comes from factory. I'd imagine you and Ciaran have. I don't have access to the same database etc that you would. I don't have the experience you do.

So your reply isn't fair to me. I don't know if it's Dayco or Mitsuboshi. What I said was based on a presumption I made from the information I had access to. Information from a thread that you participated in, but didn't correct at the time. Possibility you missed it.

The couple times that we've had a chat I loved it. You're a wealth of knowledge and aside from Subaru and work etc, I've always had a gut feeling you're an exceptional person who'd go above and beyond.

I dunno. I'm done with seeing the bad in the world. I try see the best and I try to help. That's all. I gain nothing from misinforming members.

All I can add to the madness is... I've a water pump brand new.
3port type.

Mine is 2 port so its in the box.
Took out of box and wouldn't fit.

50euro.

Dave is all ok?

Grahamo I'll take that pump I think I said it before if it fits is there any way I could see on my car how many ports are on it any one any idea can it be see from under car without taking belt cover off
