This is Drive shaft on 2008 transporter 130bhp it is only in a couple of months so it's not worn neither is passo side took it out and had a look this is doing my head in every day I wonder is the diff starting to ware in gearbox I was planning on changing van soon but ain't going to sell some one else my problem I wouldn't like it done to me. Any advice would be great. I have no other noise in van apart from this clunk every time I take foot off accelerator put it back on it's there.

If splines on shaft and box are ok then it is backlash betwen planet and sun gears or between diff ring gear and pinion, some backlash is normal but excessive means box overhaul to fix

Would u say this is excessive amount of play as I said no noise whines crunching of gears but van drives good no prob expect for this

There is a small splined shaft between gearbox and drive shaft.could be this
.changed one lately and had similar issue to this.

As above, replace shaft and spline part coming out of box.
Piece of piss to do.

Graham that is a brand new one in it shaft and spline that's why I am wondering where exactly the clunk is coming from would it be out of gears van drives perfect apart from this use it for work every day don't want to be left on side of rd again. Would there be ever any play in diff?? Might be going on a bit but wasn't like it before other shaft snapped 1800000 on clock

had same thing on an 09 transporter I had .

done another 60 k with me and never proved an issue and another guy had it for another year or more and never failed but clunk would get on your wick

Has to be internal in the box so If they are new genuine parts.
New Vw vans are great but when warranty runs out time for another new one.

No just motor factors what kind of interns, reconditioned and what kind of money [emoji383]????????

No idea, we send all that gearbox stuff out for repair to a specialist.
We don't have time for it at our labour rates.
Price is normally around 600 to recon a box if you hand it to them.

Thanks for advice graham it's a strange one maybe just other two cars don't do it so more one my mind when jump into van. Have to be honest only thing it's got is maintained every 12000km starting motor discs and drive shaft, bushes I know of lads who have had big trouble alright but if you do look after anything trouble is never two far away. Parts are dear alright guy who knows me from buying bits is nearly apologetic before he give price think going to be changed for a ford custom better spec,5 year warranty and a couple of grand cheaper always had vw vans but there just a bit out of reach and not much changed with them we shall see
