So,

I woke up this morning, being off from my hard work and all, I decided I wanted to give the whole Detango a go, at least if i feked it up it was my already feked up headlights and not a set of new ones I am planning to get.

Anyway here we go.

Detango - 2004 Blobeye Impreza....

Ingredients:

A set of blobeye headlights,

1 ratchet

1 10mm socket

1 12mm socket

1 Flathead screwdriver

1 Phillips screwdriver

1 tube of TEC7

1 can of Simoniz matt black spray paint

1 sheet of corn 1500 sandpaper

CiaranWRX's phone number....

and a about 8 hours of space ahead of you.

This was how the car looked before I started

Directions:

Use the spanner with the 12mm socket to take off the front grille of the car

Use the spanner with the 10mm socket to take of the headlights

Preheat the oven to about 50 degrees Celsius.

If on doubt, call Ciaran...

Take out all the bulbs etc

Take out all small screws using the Phillips screwdriver

place 1 head light in the middle of the oven.

Bake for about 12-15 min

Apply the Flathead screwdriver to the rubber edge and work loose the heated glue till the front easy falls off.

clean the lights inside and out.

Use the sandpaper to grind off the chrome parts, (do not sand the reflector parts, leave them on the light)

remove the yellow glass.

At this stage you better call Ciaran again....

when your inner brackets are sanded prepare to paint.

Apply about 8 - 12 layers of paint allowing 30 min to dry between the layers.

Once dry, assemble the light.

If your edges of glue have dried up give them 10-12 in the oven on 50 degrees again to loosen up the glue.

Apply the TEC7 around the edges and screw the headlight together, make sure it seals tight.

clean, polish, and back in the car.

Here is a photo series with the steps.

Have to admit,

I loved the whole process. And a big thanks to Ciaran for the hotline and guidance provided, in the process i destroyed our kitchen table cloth and a hand towel, got glue all over the place...Eileen was not pleased.

Anyway I love the look it gives the car, and now I know how to do it. So now to get a new set of headlights and do it all over again.

Great post. I'm sure this will be very useful to others
