Hi from new Legacy Spec B owner

i put nearly 100,000k on one without remap and ever an issue . Great car , Ecu can adjust evetthing to compensate for poor petrol apparently, drive her on I did just regular oil changes and never a problem

To be safe for now, if i was you, i would drive it with some NF booster in it, the amount of twinscroll legacy's i have heard of that went boom been dogged by the owners on low quality Irish fuel is surprising. You could probably leave it as is with 95 + booster, probably not the cheapest option but thats up to you to figure out. I got mine mapped in standard form to e5 back in the day l the week after i bought it back in 2008, probably overkill now that i look back at it.

Word of advice, keep the boost around 1.2 bar and power around 300bhp on the standard internals, they are same strength as a wrx so dont compare the short block to the sti one. High compression engine, and fairly sensitive to increase in boost . Mine died at about 330bhp with an upgraded turbo but seeing guys getting remapped in uk with some mods pushing 310-320 they just let go!

Dave RSR has plenty of experience rebuilding them as he got a fair few into him over the years! Mine after rebuild was a good base and is still going strong with its current owner.

Any questions let me know, hopefully i can help!

Thanks for the advice Dan, I'll play it safe and get some NF in asap.
I don't have any power chasing plans at the moment, it's plenty fast for me but I appreciate the info!

This time last week my Legacy was up on to the rollers in AP-Performance Galway.
I can't recommend Aonghus highly enough.Very professional and informative and was in the car on the dyno all day, I lost count of how many runs he made. Car made 280hp and 390Nm so I'm very pleased with it, there is quite a noticeable improvement in how smooth the car is and there is an addictive push from 3000-4000rpm as can be seen by the nice torque hill in the graph. We did some road testing afterwards with the laptop plugged in, zero knock detected. Decided to keep running the NF Race octane booster for safety and optimum performance, I don't do a lot of mileage on the car but its no great extra hassle/cost really either way.

So this year I got the car, got a major service, good new tyres, some bodywork/paint correction & ceramic coating, and a remap.
For the bodywork and ceramic coating I highly recommend CarVogue Thomas Smolicki (body & painter) and Mac Led Autodetailing, (detailing and ceramic coating) - they operate from same premises and you can find galleries of their work on Facebook.

That's about it for 2017, will just be enjoying putting some mileage on it and going to some more club events.
Next year will focus on the brakes, would like some braided lines and refresh the system with some uprated pads, and that's about it.
Longer term might be a larger TMIC and a few other subtle improvements but mostly I want to keep the car as original as possible.

Cheers :subaru:

Yes cannot recommend Aonghus enough. I had my auto Legacy BP5 with him and very happy with the results from it. Great peace of mind. You can see my results in the mapping section.

Welcome along pal.
That is a beautiful car.lovely in black.good job on cleaning her up.
I'm partial to the leggy wagons.....
Re the mapping, just had mine done.i feel safer driving it now,not tiddling around off boost:icon_biggrin:
When I got mine in,it had half a tank of Jap juice still in her,and took me,she was like a scalded cat at the lights.when I changed to the Irish piss, the difference was very noticeable, drop in power, nowhere as quick.
The remap got her back to factory output and a few extra torques...
It smoother.i asked about octane booster and he recommended using it,it will damage the cat- eventually- but we're talking after maybe 50-60000 miles.
The way I see it(and I could be very wrong here) is use octane, get it remapped, use octane.
It was explained to me that the ECU programming from factory is "lazy" and it can through in extra degrees of timing, randomly, then coupled with the standard knock sensor, rides the "knock" wave....:eek7:
Now the above is all black voodoo magic to me,and while this was being explained to me,I was nodding, and saying "ahhaha, ahhaha, yeah, mmhummmm,ah yes I see" trying desperately to not look like a ****ing thick shite(I don't think that worked,in fairness)
The place was covered in fully restored 2 door sierra cosworths, 69 mustangs, mk. 1 escorts with s2000 engine transplant and full running gear and suspension,71 porches etc etc.and he was showing me videos off him blitzing around mondello in his door coupe, and pics of him standing beside the LeMans team he built a car for..........
Anyways going from what I've garnered,it's good to have them remapped.

3 years ownership passed now, and I love my wagon more than ever.

Just a little update to my thread, turning more into a project than introduction at this stage.

In the past year it's gotten a few repairs and upgrades,

-GFB respons recirc/BOV
-OBD Link kit & BTSSM on the phone for some gauges
-whiteline vehicle bushing kit & rear ARB, alloy droplinks
-STI pitch stopper mount
-new wheel bearings all round
-balljoints front
-discs & pads rear
-some prodrive mats and an STI shift knob
-another trip to the bodyshop for some touch ups: respray bonnet, wing, a scratch in door, dechrome tailgate, and another ceramic protection application
-and just recently I had fitted some lovely lightweight AME Tracers I picked up last year, wrapped in some sticky Michelin pilot 4 tyres.
-the original wheels will be getting a refurb and ultimately relegated to winter duty. Says me putting on the good wheels right as we get into snow season haha

Shout out to Ciaran at Larkin Automotive for doing a load of great work on it, and thanks to the forum for recommending him.

Also renewed my ISDC membership for 2020 and hope to actually make some meetups this year

In the pipeline I have a HKS super intake system to be fitted, still dreaming of Aquamist water/meth, a new full exhaust and another remap. But that?s it for now. Here are few pics, cheers.
