Disable Factory Alarm?

Hey Folks, I have a '04 Legacy Estate. For the past few months the alarm has been driving me around the twist!
It started with the alarm constantly going off, for no apparent reason, the only way to stop this is if I lock the door with the key itself instead of remotely.
When I go to disable the immobilizer it can be hit or miss whether it will actually disable or not. I do it by turning the ignition on, pressing the fob & starting or the second way is by removing key from ignition, activating and deactivating alarm & then starting the car, but sometimes it takes 5 or 6 goes to get the alarm disabled.
It's Really bugging me now.
Initially I thought it was a door seal or something, but I've checked them all and they seem fine, same with bonnet and boot seal, all good.
I had the battery checked in Subaru garage in Waterford, they ran diagnostics as well and found nothing at fault.
Has anyone come across this before? Any way of just disabling it for once and for all? It's driving me simple.

Any advice gratefully received :)

Ellie

A simple solution I would guess would be just disconnect the alarm siren/horn
at least then you can still lock and open on the key if the alarm does go off it won't make noise
maybe that would be worth doing ?

I take it its and aftermarket alarm as they didn't come as standard on the legacy of that year . what's the make of the alarm do you know Maybe take it to on of there approved installers as it might be a simple thing to fix. Out of intrest Which Subaru garage did you call too the sweep garage .

Hey, It was the garage in The Sweep Waterford, yep. They said they checked her over and couldn't find anything wrong with. It's an intermittent problem so I suppose that makes it more tricky to diagnose :(

I did think it was an alarm that came with the car, but I bought it 2nd hand at the end of last year so could be wrong. There is a manual with the documentation that came with the car, says it's a "Subaru Category 1 Alarm System" She is a Northern Ireland import, but I doubt that matters for specs (?)

Forgive me if I'm being thick, I'm not massively technical when it comes to cars, I just know this is driving me around the twist.

There kinda new to Subaru so might not have the knowledge about them or maybe they did everything they could as you say it's an intermittent problem .

What at make is the alarm or is there a make on it. Least it will give a starting point . And yes I could have possibly being standard on a UK car as they always seen to get better spec cars

Aah, good to know, I wasn't sure if they were new to it or getting out of being associated with Subaru, but that explains it :)

Very little info in the manual, Possibly associated with Sigma? I see their name on the back of the manual "Sigma, 2002"

If there was just a way to disable the immobilizer I'd be happy out.

My husband was telling me about a guy in Cork, somewhere in Douglas, that's pretty good with Subaru's, anyone have any experience with him?

Sigma is a fairly good alarm . Have you a second fob for the alarm or is it all on the key if so have you tried using the second key to see is it a fault with the alarm fob or key ,

mark murphy in cork is very good with subarus but not sure about the alarms. Side of things . Maybe a specialists that only does alarms woul be a good place to start . You in Waterford City or Outside near Wexford .

they where a pretty good alarm, it can be bypassed as they were fitted after build. but they were fitted well and are a pain to take out. you can diagnose the alarm through the led, the proper sigma diag fits over the led. a new battery in the fob should help with the disarming problem. has yours got the pad on the windscreen?
