Got me thinking after seeing an old Toyota k30 Corolla anyone remember cars that stood out when they were younger

best car my Dad had as a kid was a Opel Manta
Had the cibie spotlights on the front too
Loved it and was devestated when he sold it

My Uncle lived with us until I was about 6 as he was Disabled
But he had brand new Minis he changed every year (automatics)
He sold c.b. radios in the dandilion market also so always had a c.b. in them with the aerial of the centre of the roof
I spent my youth in them and they are still my favourite car to this day

Another Uncle of mine used to collect me from school in a Fiat 124 sport with a roll cage and stuff
that was a seriously cool car

My had a mk1 escort rs Mexico in red 1yi was the reg cool car and he had a load of mk1 fiestas supersports and xr2s

We had and still have a 1981 Fiesta 1300S reg HIT454 in strato silver. It needs serious work but hopefully some day will see the road again. We also had a succession of Datsun Laurels (200L) with the sweetest of straight six engines. I learned to drive in a 78 one,WDI302.Happy days.

First car I really remember the father having was a yellow mk2 escort with the black vinyl roof . Was a fast car in the day and would pass anything but a petrol station . After that he had a green mazda 323 saloon . It was an ex detective car out of dublin castle and was a weapon of a car to go and hold the road . That was followed by an 89 turbo passat that was decked on bbs rims . Then he got a sensible with a Renault megane turd . Lasted 6 months and he bought a new Sri primera in white with all the bits .that was about the height of British touring car championship and matt neal was winning races flat out in a white one.

There was a few minis and a tuned beetle threw in over the years 2 .Still remember him doing a few rings in the yard when the beetle came back from been done .

Tyres were a big thing back then money was tight so remoulds were what was used rings we only done before the car was sold

Where to start.... (parents are both petrol heads).. just a few that I have fond memories of.

- 1958 Vanden Plas Princess with a RR 6.4L (wooden floors, 2x 6volt batteries in the floor one on either side, dual tone paint job, smell of wood and leather)

- 1964 MB 350SE (w112) 3.5L (little wings at the back, all red, including red leather, white steering wheel, autobox and a horn that moohed like a cow ;-)

- 1967 Chevvy Corvette Stingray 7.0L (sounded so good it made me cry -- with joy... and I was about 6-7 at the time in the early 80's)

- 1976 Chevvy Impala 7.4L (another great sounding car, 6mpg, wide enough for my 6ft dad to lie in the rear window parcel shelf fully stretched
a total ball ache to find parking for though unless you found at least two spaces side by side).

- 1982 Chevvy Caprice 4.4L (very plush and luxurious back in the early 80s compared to other motors around - and electric everything... remember some hooligan broke a mirror off during the night one time and the father nearly got sick when he was quoted 600 for a replacement back in about 1984)

- 1982 Ford Capri 2.8 Turbo (German import limited edition lhd - liked it because dad and mum always in a good mood when they drove this one)

- 1990 Suzuki Swift GTI (Mum bought it new with fat wide alloys on it. Later on I drove it for about 2 years in '94-'96 and great car, great memories)

There are loads more, but these spring to mind right now.

My dad had a 91/92 Primera gt with the sr20 na in it, I must of been 4 or 5 and taught it was the fastest thing in the world my dad had and still does have a heavy foot. it's what got me into cars, looking at one now I laugh but for me it's a very iconic car.
