Track day car

Another small update on progress. With the front suspension geometry sorted I moved back to some gearbox work. While I'm fitting the new LSD I thought it best to get new bearings also.So I called Citroen in Mullingar and got a price of 55 euro + vat (each)[emoji50]
So needless to say I quickly hung up the phone on them.My mate Ray has a agri dealership in Tyrrellspass and he had a contact in Athlone who he said would have the same bearings. And today he came up with the goods 15 bob each so straight away around 80 euro saving!

The old bearings were super tight I was just waiting for the pullers to snap!

Just got my 4.54 crown wheel back and it's now machined onto the crown wheel that came with the LSD.I got a local engineering guy to do this job and I have to say I'm very impressed with the job he did.As the OEM diff on the Saxo MA gear box is a press on effort,we had to really heat it and press it off using ten tones of force.I then got this outer ring machined down to fit the gripper crown wheel, which also had to have its original teeth removed. It was left as an interference fit and needed heat to be pressed on again.Just incase of any slip I will still spot weld the two parts together.

My problems didn't stop there, for some reason the diff was slightly rubbing the casing of the box as you can see below[emoji116]

So rather than taking a bit of the housing,we spun the diff on the lathe and at last now it all seems to fit correctly!

Next job when I get a chance will be to get the gearbox back together and move on to the next stage of the project.

Been getting another few small bits done the past few evenings.Started to clean down the engine bay, wheels arches and started to spray with some though black spray paint. This is not a job I enjoy but should be worth doing.

Been a few more updates on this little but getting bigger project. The engine is back together with new 307 16v rocker covers. This is a nice little upgrade for these engines as it really improves the breather system and also means I had to get a new twin entry catch can.

The latest development is the arrival of a new omex 600 ecu thanks to Micky at Pro tune in Dundalk.
My old ECU has been sold along with other unwanted parts to fund this which is good[emoji106]

The plan now is to completely remove the dash and rewire the car only using what's needed for racing.I have a nice sheet of real carbon fibre so this will work for the new custom dashboard.

Big strip out done today and thanks to Dec for calling down to lend a hand[emoji106]
We completely removed the dash and pretty much everything else that was in there. The plan is to rewire from scratch fitting switches on the original heater panel and a new fuse box under the dash skin.Im re using the dash skin as it's very light when trimmed back and instead of the original clocks were doing a custom carbon fibre insert with Rev water and oil temp. There will also be a shift light and oil light in this dash. The Omex 600 will allow me to use launch control so that will also be fitted.Next few weeks will be very busy in my down time trying to get this car ready for the season.

Cheers lads[emoji106]
Bodies are not in the budget this time around but I'm sure that will be in the next chapter[emoji57]
The focus for the moment is to make this car as fast as I can within some kind of time and budget.Great as always to have Dec on board from the start as that's where a lot of my madness is sparked[emoji23][emoji108]
