Track day car

Your dead right. That barrier time I just don't like. That car deserves. To be running flat out and your well capable of having it near the front. I'll be watching closely! ????

Cheers Martin.
Some mods planned for the winter which will help her along hopefully [emoji106]

The next little stage of development has started today. In the pursuit to get even lighter I have removed original fuel tank. I will fit a new 12 ltr fuel cell in its place. I’m looking to locate this more on the passenger side. The plan is to have a built in swirl pot at the bottom which will mean I won’t need a lift pump in the tank. An in-line pump under the bonnet should work fine.

I also plan to re direct the the exhaust under the car to make more room for some aero. I’ll try flat bottom the car as well as possible and make a small rear diffuser.

In further efforts to clean up under the car for flat flooring, we have decided to run a side exit exhaust. By removing the existing back box and mid section I was able to cut back the front pipe and fit a nice new 24” Profusion centre pipe. After this pipe the tail pipe will exit at 110 degrees just in front of the rear driver side wheel. Pipefab in Tullamore will make the rear section for me and I’ll fit it myself. Hopefully it won’t be too loud or cause any power issues. I was very happy with the Supersprint and Kam Racing setup, but needs must for space.

The new centre box is 24” long and 3” diameter so fits perfectly inside the tunnel.

Very rough draft of what it will look like. The plan is to increase the end pipe and have it flattened for a more flush side exit.

First little mock up of the location to make sure it fits ok.
Hopefully my fuel tank will be ready and land next week so I can get that fitted. Very early days yet but I’ll get small bits done as I can afford to do them.
Looking at adding 1.5 rear negative camber and also adding 12mm track to either side.

My latest bit of work was to start fitting the 20ltr fuel cell. Very impressed how light this actually is. It has a built in swirl pot and foam filled which will stop any surge.
There was s few reasons for going with the fuel cell, but the main reason is always to save weight. As I want to do a full flat floor, “as much as possible” removing the oem tank let’s me run a tidy side exit exhaust which will move up nicely under the flat floor. Side exit is something I always wanted to do but I knew the fuel tank needed to go first.

This is the location I’ll be fitting the tank. I’m keeping it on the passenger side and as far forward as possible for better weight distribution.

Location marked out so time to start cutting..

Final cutting done and profile all edges. You can see the extra cuts for the swirl pot and line connectors.

Very happy with the fitment now. Before I fix this in place I’ll be getting under the car to give it some TLC.
I have been building and racing this car for near 4 years now so it’s well due. This car has very little rust but done areas have surface rust. I’ll clean everything very well and coat all areas with a suitable gunk!
Of course I’ll eventually have to build a fire wall around all this when finished.

Over the past few days I have started making the back section for me side exit exhaust. Original I gad tasked someone else with this job as my welding skills wouldn’t be the best, but unfortunately I was let down on this. So I decided to just give it a lash, as learning is what this car is all about after all.
My main section was always 50mm so no need to go any bigger really. I picked up a 2M Bosal 50mm pipe and a solid 90 degree bend which was perfect for the job. I’m lucky to have a handy band saw so straight cuts wasn’t a problem while making this.

Tonight I got the main brackets finished and have it hanging nicely under the car. This should now be up far enough to allow me better clearance for the flat floor. Everything got a lick of silver VHT paint. I will need to remove this again so I can tidy and paint under the car. I also need to make an aluminium plate for the skirt where the exhaust exits.

I also have the fuel tank in its final resting place. Again I’ll need to remove this for painting, but once that’s done I can start working on the firewall and pipe work.

Long winter ahead and still plenty to do. Won’t see huge gains with these bits, but all bits I wanted to get done to help make it a better race car overall.

Sorry looking sight tonight..
While cleaning all under the car and painting, I have decided to clean and paint the inside. Not a job I’m enjoying as I should have done it the last time I stripped the car. That said the results should be worth it. I’ll paint it all white inside and possibly even give the cage a fresh paint job.

New rear axel kit!
Adds 1.5 degree negative and extra 12mm wider on each side. This should add some rear end stability:)

It’s been 4 years since I started this thread guys.. Thanks for all the support advice and comments. Still a long way from finished but certainly has come a long way.
Needless to say this snowballed a little but it’s been fun:)
