Dual Mass Flywheel in Petrol legacy 2 litre?

So I've been doing some reading on the mark 4 Legacy (2.0 Petrol) and found a few sites that mention dmf problems with petrol legacies.

Anyone in the club ever had an issue or know more about it?

Part of a discussion at: http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php/topic/96288-dual-mass-flywheel-fault-confirmed/

(Subaru UK) are aware of the problems with the DMF and they've come up with a list of parts, presumably from the Impreza, to replace the DMF and clutch, I can't see they would have bothered if the DMFs don't fail.

and from boards.ie: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=77124276

In terms of a problems watch out for a dual mass problems with this car. It is a common problem in all manual 04-08 Legacy's 2.0 and 2.5l sold in Europe. It is easy to check if the dmf is on its way though - pull the hand brake, put it in 1st gear and with your foot off the throttle start releasing the clutch pedal. If you hear a squeak like continuous noise coming from the engine bay (a little bit like a belt squeal) then the dmf is on its way. It does not mean it will fall apart though, the clutch itself will go first. If the clutch pedal feels hard to press the clutch will need replacing too. The good thing is that Subaru realized there was a problem with it and released a conversion kit that uses a flexi-flywheel and clutch from Impreza WRX (which I used).

Appreciate any experience or input anybody has on this as it'd be a costly little thing to replace! Cheers

i.v never heard of any going wrong or being an issue but dave legacy would know more

Yes can be an issue. But thats same issue that can be in any make and model using dmf's.

Nothing unique to subaru.

Would not be an issue where would not buy that make or model car because type thing.

Its simply wear of a clutch item. Most cars use dual mass flywheels now.
