what do ye think of the spec D ??

ye probably will get a jdm in uk but I meant this thread as to see what everyone else thinks of the spec d not necessarily to buy myself .just as an sti impreza variant ???

I agree leather is lovely on a long journey and even on track iv never had an issue with leather

Well, its basically an STI with Leather Seats and spoiler-less... I assume over the years, the price will be very similar to STI. Then I would not really care that much... if I bought it, I'd probably keep the seats, even tho Leather isnt weapon of my choice, and add spoiler... make it a standard STI...

FYI: The little lip in the pictures is not the original Spec-D rear end... the lip was a special order item as the Spec-D came with the WRX spoiler like I have on mine (and Ciaran WRX on his blob). Don't like the lip as much, the WRX spoiler is right for me.

Pro's:
Goodies at no extra cost like Fogs, Leather, SatNav - But still full STI performance with DCCD etc.
More comfy to live with on daily basis
More chance of one which had an easy life (typically more mature owner)
Bit more rare than just a normal STI
More discrete look (if it is your thing)

Con's:
Same EJ257 issues (2007 apparently stronger engine than '05-'06), so may need to uprate bits if looking for more power.
Higher tax for pre-'08 due to 2.5 vs 2.0
Bit thirstier for the same reason in standard form (once you tune economy is out the window anyway!)
More weight due to extra soundproofing and other toys etc
Less track oriented if that is what you are after (compared to JDM / Spec-C / S204)
More discrete look (if it is not your thing)

Horses for courses lads... though would say that by now - if buying a Hawk STI - it is more about condition and price, so even if you want the bigger spoiler etc, you might still get a better starting point in a Spec-D for the money you'd spend if going down the EJ257 STI route.

Well, lets not try to kid ourselves... no matter what impreza you get, you CANNOT go discrete... the car is as sharp as it can get, and unless you have lived last 20 years under the rock, as soon as you see the car, no matter if it has spoiler or not, it will always be a sports car

Why wait to see will a jap pop up Dec... Why don't you just import one from Japan.. It will only take about 2 months

Dont't get me wrong dec they're a nice car very subtle if you can have a subtle sti that is but as regards the 2.5 engine eith the high tax and so on i would go for the jap everytime

Can you post a direct link, I'm back now hankering after one. Only thing I can find is a carbon fiber s204 replica :comp26:

I've seen type 25's for well under 10k in UK, would that not be the best of both worlds? a reliable ej25 and twin scroll?

Don't think they are real t25 cars man they are t25 spec engines in type uk sti .the reason I say that is the don't have right wheels suspension etc

They all have different specs but AFAIK all type 25s are based on JDMs

These 2 started life as JDM's

This one has the AST suspension

Or one in carbon fiber too, think I may start saving :multijump:

I know they are only replicas but for yours I would fit the s203 as it from the same shape car
