Car wouldnt start...

Petrolheads
Car wouldnt start, turned the key. The ignition light up was very faint.

Battery is 2years old, so its hardly that? How would i know if the alternator wasnt chargering....

Any help would be great. :subaru:

it could be the cold doing it to the battery,
this weather use to bring alot of people into our garage where i worked at the time,

batterys do just pack up,
try start her on the push an bring her to a garage
battery check is free

Seems to be the battery for now.
Is she parked in a garage or outside...? Very common that the first cold nights kill older batteries.

If the alternator is not charging, you should have seen the charging controll lamp on. If in doubt, you have to measure the charging current when the engine is running.
Give her a jump start. Have you left the radio on over night?

Bloody phone call disrupted me finishing the thread.... :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

... Well done mate :icon_pidu:

Cheers lads. Its parked outside alrite, alarm has being acting up,

might be draining it. :ponder:

yeah there is your first sign,
switch off the alarm an give her a push start if you can.

she should start right up on the push (or even down wards slant haha)

 I'll try that, Might try and start it at tea time see if theres any

life still in it, fella was telling me 2years can be about right for the life of some

car batterys, would have thought longer than that.

the original battery i saw a fella get 9 years out of once..
they jus dont make them like that any more,

an i doubt she will gather any juice by sitting in the clod till tea time.

How would you know if its the alternator, if so would i be as well getting

it re-conditioned.

a battery check with a volt meter would even give you an indication,
if she holds her charge while the car is running its not the alternator..

id still say battery problem by the alarm acting up.

9 years??? :shock2:
Well... Unusually, but then only as a long range driver... If you just drive a few minutes every day to work and back, the battery will die earlier then if you drive her every day a couple of hours

Stick a volt meter on it with the car off should be 12v then start the car stick the meter back on should read 14v if so its charging

As above try a volt meter on the battery.
Had similar problem with my girlfriends car. Battery kept going dead but the main giveaway tellin me it was the alternator was that the lights were going from bright to dim as you drove along.
Also the fan when you had the heat on would speed up and slow down.
Got the alternator rewound for 200 euro. Found out after that a new one was 240euro. :angry1:
Hope you sort it

Cheers lads, Battery is back working like normal now, weird( still keeping the jump leads in the boot though)

Alarm was acting up and the harzard lights fuse was blown too, dont know if that would effect the starting :ponder:
