Sunday Drivers
I know its a month away but does anyone have any idea what route the rally is taking this year? I have looked up the Galway Motor Club site and all that i have found out from that, is that there in the Portumna area on the Sat and the Ballinasloe area on the Sun which sounds a lot like last years event.I have no  idea of any times either .

Seems that way alright James so might be just as well I kept last years details as there no Rally Map Information up yet.

Anyone know details on the start of the first stage on Saturday...where and time etc....or where this info can be got.....other than the programme......which it seems you can only get when you get to Galway.....

Appreciate any help...

Ken

Ken if you go to a website called galwayinternational.com you will get detailed times etc.Im not sure of exact location myself yet but it may help you.Im trying to get a copy faxed to me later so if i do i will let you know...........

I took this from www.galwayinternational.com

Galway Motor Club in association with our sponsor First Choice Flooring Ltd. are delighted to announce that for 2007 we will be maintaining a formula that proved very successful over the last three years!.

Galway Motor Club are staging the rally in conjunction with First Choice Flooring Ltd. who are the main sponsors for the event. First Choice Flooring Ltd. have offices and showrooms at Terryland, Galway.

John O'Connell, is once again clerk of the course for the event, and he heads the organising team - most of whom have agreed to return for another year.

The action takes place over three days, with scrutiny on Friday in Galway City. The Rally will leave Galway early on Saturday morning for 105 stage kms in a three stage configuration, with centralised servicing in Portumna Mart and visiting Gurtymadden, Portumna and Eyrecourt.

The action on Sunday shifts to Ballinasloe with 140 stage kms running from Caltra to Ballyfa with centralised servicing in Ballinasloe Mart.

In addition to the Galway International being the opening round of the Irish Tarmac Championship we are also proud to be the first round of the Irish Historic Championship. The Galway Historic Rally will cover 190 stage kms over the two days.

The Galway Junior Rally will cover all nine stages on Sunday.

The headquarters for the Rally will be located at Galway's newest hotel - the Clayton at Ballybrit. In addition to being the location for documentation scrutiny, the rally HQ willalso be the entertainment hub for the weekend.

Ken In reply to your earlier query I have just spoken to a friend of mine who loves close to one of the Rally Stages.
He has told me that there are no Rally Paks available yet even though they were supposed to be on sale in all outllets yeasterday. He also said that there appears to be some changes to the route with a stage cancelled and new details to be issued tonight.Obviously that is subject to confirmation .Believe Stage concerned is in the Greenville area !!!!!!!! Close to a small town called Ballymacward.
Hope it may help but I have no way to officcally confirm route changes at this time !!!!!!!

Just a note in relation to my above post about the change in schedule Greenville is in fact close to a place called Caltra and that SS is now cancelled.
Obviously this relates to Sunday only.
Hope information is of some help reason for change is a sudden death of a local resident along the route..

Quick up-date in regard to what car driver was saying.

Stages 9,12 & 15 on Sunday have now been cancelled.

So a lie in Sunday morning with first stage, no. 10 not starting until 10.12.

Eugene Donnelly’s dream of winning this Galway International all fell apart in stage 16 when his Subaru reportedly under steered into a ditch and got stuck. Marcus Gronholm had turned in a stunning time on stage 14 and was just over a second behind Eugene starting that Eglish test. Initial reports that Gronholm’s Focus had also gone off proved to be incorrect and in fact the Finnish driver turned in a fantastic time 17s up on Mark Higgins. We were told earlier that Marcus wasn’t very happy with the revised suspension set up on his Focus but as it transpired he was perfectly comfortable and found the car so much better. Marcus Gronholm commented at the end of the final stage “It was a difficult rally but we learned a lot, it was good to have Donnelly to push me. It was sad for him to go off, he was driving well”. Gareth MacHale commented. “I’m happy enough, we were getting quicker throughout the rally as I got used to the left hand drive. I didn’t think I’d be that on the pace with the new car”.

Mark Higgins’ late surge has promoted him to 3rd place which will almost certainly mean maximum Tarmac Championship points as neither Gronholm or Gareth MacHale registered for the series. Mark commented. “I was a bit happier towards the end but there is still a bit to do. It was a pretty dreadful rally for me, I hope we get more grip in Sweden. Still it was a great opportunity for me to drive the Pirelli car, we had a few worries on the last stage as it is showing low oil pressure but we got here”. Further stories include; Kevin Lynch spinning his Focus on the penultimate stage. Ray Breen had power steering trouble at the nd. Austin MacHale had a front left puncture but lost little time and Gareth Jones crashed the Reid Motorsport Impreza at a crest into square right almost within sight of the finish. Gareth’s Focus had a puncture some distance before the accident so possibly this was a contributory factor.

In Group N James Foley and his co driver Paddy Robinson scored a great victory with Kevin O’Donoghue 2nd, Kevin Kelleher 3rd. Current gpN champion Colm Murphy set a string of gpN fastest times today.

In the National part of the rally with 1 stage remaining Brian Brogan and Joe Friel led in their Escort from Manus Kelly in his Lancer and Tom Holton 3rd in his Celica.

Young Tadgh Buckley led the Fiesta Sporting Trophy contenders from Jonny Greer with Alastair Fisher 3rd.

Martin McCormick continued to lead the Historics in his Escort from Martin Leonard with Niall Creighton 3rd. Finally for now many thanks to all the Galway organisers for a terrific event and to all who supported the RallyNews service.

Very disappointed Donnelly slid off near the end while still leading.

Must say new car looks savage and he was going hard to keep Gronholm behind him.

Lots of scoobys around alright Norris.

Have a few pics from service which l'll try and put up later.

Eamonn
