knocking noise from engine

was wondering if someone could tell me what a knocking noise from the engine is..
was driving the car the other day and the clutch got stuck half way..when i put my foot under it and released it a knocking sound could be heard from the engine..
what could this be ? ? ?

Knocking is never good mate!! Get it checked right away, hopefully its not too serious. :pray:
 
Definitely from the engine? Could it be in the gearbox? Can you hear it when she idles or only when you're driving? Hope its not too serious mate!
 
when im driving..when i go over a certain amount of revs, u can hear it..
 
just a maybe, if it happened when the pedal stuck. could it be a clutch problem, maybe the pressure plate or a clutch spring. a big end wouldn't affect the clutch. could be a coincidence.
