Lads this is so easy nobody on here should ever have to pay for it to be done again.

I found out how to do it from Scoobynet but also asked a subaru Machanic just to get a better under standing.

Make sure your car is on a flat surface if you don't have a lift. Place an object behind the front wheels to stop the car possably rolling over your head when you get under the car.

1. Remove the cover over the hand brake.

This just pulls off.

2. Release the hand brake and using 2 X 10mm spanners unlock the two screws on the hand brake cable.

3. Back to the back of the car

You'll see 2 rubber bungs one on each side of the inside of the rear brake unit.

Pull them off.

You'll notice although you may need a torch to see them correctly. Teeth on a bar inside the hole that the bungs where in.

4. Using a screw driver Push up on the Teeth, you will only get one tooth turning at a time until you cann't rotate it any more.

Do this on both sides.

What your doing is locking the brake shoes to the brake drum.

5. Now go back into the car and pull up on the hand brake lever. You'll fell slack as you do so. It's that slack that you must remove. Using you 10mm spanner on the lower screw adjust the lever until there is no longer slack. Pulling and releasing after ever turn to cheack when the slack is gone. So you should fell tension on the lever the minute you start pulling it up.

At he point screw the top nut back down to the lower one locking them against each other.

6. So with the hand brake still off go back under the rear of the car.

Using your screw driver again, but this time pushing down on the teeth count 4 clicks on each side. This brings the Shoes the correct distance from the drum.

7. Push back in the Rubber bung on both sides.

8. Replace the Cover in the centre that covers the hand brake and pull up on the lever. It should pull up 4 or 5 clicks on the hand brake and your done.

Hope this helps. :subaru:
