gear box in non turbo impreza

hey lads,
I'm new to this place.

just wondering about anybody who have had problems with front diffs. i have a 97 2L non turbo and when driving straight taking off i'm getting a loud knocking noise same as a cv knock. was under the car and no cv boots ripped or knocking, sounds like from inside the gear box on driver's side. when i grab the drive shaft i can see movement in the shaft coming out of the gear box.

has anyone had this problem before?

ye thanks, im sick walking past it every day, im driving the new one from when i get back from spain any way,i just want to sell the car at this stage, although cian was helpful, hope fully the bearing just collapsed
