need some advice

well lads as it says above i'm after some advice for a mate of mine
he's looking at buying a 94 2.0lt turbo impreza for little money,
the car hasn't been ran much in the last year,the bloke selling it
said he'd start it up and leave it run for a few minutes then switch it off
my mate wants to know is there anything he should be looking out for,
in erms off things going bang,by the way he's going to do it up as a track car

No expert either but the condition of the oil is very important.

Listen for any noise's from start up, and then, when warm, give it a rev or 2. It's very hard to hear any noise from the crank, I use a stethescope, which can be common. It's a 94 car so if it's to be used on track, you need to be careful.
