My car looks like it needs a catch can for the oil that is in intercooler, manifold, recirculating valve, intake piping. its not a scary amount, mostly a film of oil on everything.
From what I understand a catch can will stop oil getting in here, but could there be an issue that is causing this?
the car is a 2002 legacy B4 twin turbo

I've owned a few Imprezas now... a Classic STI, Blob WRX, and now Hawk STI... all of them had a film of oil on the inside of the air intake and as long as only a film it is not a major issue, especially not if stock and normal daily use. If there's pools of oil... then not good.

Of course any oil in there will be lowering the octane rating of the fuel mixture... which of course can be risky and lead to det and damage.

A good air/oil separator catch can would certainly help... and if you are putting extra pressure on things through mapping, trackdays, lots of spirited driving etc... then catch can would be something I would fit alright.

Separator ones are expensive but better than the catch can
I see perrin do a nice one but I think it's 400 yoyos

Yeah... good ones are expensive... but they work.
There may be good ones for less than the Perrin one though.

Cheap ones are not worth the bother (based on what I have seen on rally cars).
They do not take enough oil out to be worth it and are just a point of failure.
