BISHOPSCOURT DRIFT - RACE - DRAG Events. From 3rd Feb, incl "Total Car-Nage"

FEBAdWEB-1.jpg

Hello friends, my first post, so here goes!...
Listed below is the fixture list for the 2008 competitive season.
It should be noted that due to some re-structuring in the format the Drift championship will not start until the third event of the year, a 2-day event titled: “Total CAR-NAGE”. The first 2 events of the year will be a great opportunity for drivers to test any changes they may have made to their machinery and we do expect to see a great turnout.

On these occasions we will still be running the full program as usual, but now with a revised schedule which allows even more track time for all our drivers. In particular I expect the afternoon Test Sessions to be popular with drifters who qualify outside of the Top 16 places. These sessions are open to all cars; road, rally, race & drift.

SCHEDULE - 3rd FEB
TEST SESSIONS...........9am
RACE PRACTICE..........11.30
DRIFT PRACTICE.........12.00
SPRINT RACE (Heat)......1pm

IRELAND’S FIRST PRO DRAG STRIP TIMING GEAR
has been purchased and is expected to arrive with us ahead of our 2nd event, on 9th March. This fully wireless system with full size Pro ‘Christmas Tree’ starting lights with Dual Beam start line electronics will provide reaction times, 60ft times, elapsed times and terminal speed. The system also comes with complete race management software.

This is expected to give a great boost to the already very popular Drag racing scene in Ireland. This wireless system affords us many variations on the typical Drag only event as the lack of wires running up the centre of the track enables various activities to be run without affecting the set-up of the track and / or equipment.

DRAG CLASSES

Classes 1 – 4 are for production cars that are, or have been available on general sale to the public, including foreign imported models. Any non-compliant vehicle (such as a racing special) will automatically carry the ‘P’ plate ahead of their race number, (Eg: P123) to signify their Pro class status. Any car that records a ¼ mile time <12.5 sec will from then on carry the ‘P’ plate. The addition of NOS will elevate any car to the next class up, unless the car is already Class 1.

A factor of 2 will apply to the capacity of turbo charged rotary engines.
Ie: 1300cc x2 = 2600cc Tyre choice is free in all classes

CLASS 4 (EG: Civic SiR, Integra, Colt Mivec, Levin, Starlet Turbo)
<1900cc Naturally Aspirated...<1400cc Turbo / SC...Front engined, 2wd only
Excludes all space frame chassis.

CLASS 3 (EG: 2L Civic R, Prelude 2.2, Seat Cupra R, BMW 328i)
<2900cc N.A...<1800cc Turbo / SC.......Front engined, 2wd only
Excludes all space frame chassis

CLASS 2 (EG: Nissan Silvia, M3, Sierra Cosworth, RX7, Lotus Elise)
Turbo / SC engines permitted on front engined, 2wd cars only...
4wd permitted on Nat. Aspirated engines only
Excludes all space frame chassis

CLASS 1 (EG: Impreza, Evo, Skyline, Pulsar, Lotus 7, Ariel Atom)
Space frame chassis permitted on 2wd cars only

PRO CLASS (EG: Tuning Company Demo car, Formula Libre race car)
Any car having recorded a time <12.5 seconds.....Any non-road based car

Entries are currently being accepted for the Drag section of the “Total CAR-NAGE” event in April.
Whilst not a strict requirement, advance entry is strongly recommended as it is expected that the 100 places will fill up quite rapidly, with several having already been received

The classes in the 2008 SWRC Championship are as follows:
ULSTER DRIFT CHAMPIONSHIP (UDC)
(Racing Classes)Junior Class
Sports Hatch Div 1
Sports Hatch Div 2
GT Class Div 1
GT Class Div 2
325ni Challenge

The Overall Champion (Drift & Race Classes) will win a trip for 2 to the USA, to a round of the 2009 D1 GRAND PRIX Drift Championship.
(NASCAR available if preferred)
Each class champion will win a trip for 2 to the 2009 Autosport International show in Birmingham NEC, complete with Pit Lane passes and tickets to the Live Action Arena.
The Junior Champion will win free race passes for the ‘09 Championship

DRIFTING

This year we will see a number of changes to the Drift competition.
Not least is the new title: ULSTER DRIFT CHAMPIONSHIP (UDC).
The championship is of course still open to drivers from all 4 provinces of Ireland.
Points will be awarded as follows:
(1st) 15pts, (2nd) 12pts, (3rd) 10pts, (4th) 8pts,
(5th) 6pts, (6th) 4pts, (7th) 3pts, (8th) 2pts, (9th – 16th) 1pt

• Division 1 & 2
The benefits of this system are to allow new and upcoming drivers to compete for prizes before they are at a level to challenge for the overall top places. After applying a certain criteria, the top drivers from the ’07 championship plus several other noteworthy individuals have been graded as Div 1. We have applied similar criteria to drivers from other drift organisations to assemble a list of the top drivers in the country.

A driver’s grade will be obvious from their competition number, prominently displayed on their car windscreen. Div 1 drivers will all have a number starting with No.1 (EG: 101, 102, 103 etc.) Div 2 drivers will have a number starting with No.2. A Div 2 driver will automatically be upgraded after: (A) a top 4 finish or (B) 2 x top 8 finishes.
The top 4 Div 2 drivers will battle for the Div 2 trophy:
(3rd vs. 4th for 3rd place) and (1st vs. 2nd for 1st place) More info available upon request.

(Some ppl have been confused by the tyre rules. Basically it means road tyres only) ;)

A NEW ADDITION to the SWRC Race Championship:

The 325ni Challenge is a low-cost, one-make race championship for the BMW 3 series, models from E36 onwards. The aim is to obtain grids of cars similar in performance (approx 200Bhp) with controlled technical regs to maximize the quality of racing. Costs will be kept low by limiting cars to certain permitted mods, however corners will not be cut when it comes to safety and high standards will be maintained with MSA requirements being adopted wherever feasible.

Here's the entry form for CAR-NAGE.
You can either post it off to me or even enter when you're at the track at one of the previous events (Feb / Mar).

Alternatively, we should have Paypal sorted any day now ;)

DTDRegForm.jpg

BTW, the 45 Euro entry fee includes your general admission. So even better VFM.

I reckon that next year we'll have 6 classes instead of 5.

This I reckon because we'll see alot of really fast cars come out of the woodwork this year.
Therefore, the Pro Class will come down to cars that run <11.5sec, or maybe even <11sec
Class 1 will be in the bracket of 11.51sec - 12.5sec
Our current Class 1 will become Class 2
Class 2 will become Class 3......3 will be 4...........4 will be 5

That's my prediction anyway

PS - It says DTD Drag Event on the form as it was the guys from DTDIRL.COM that instigated the whole thing.
Their interest in the Drag events even lead me to restructure the fixture list, ending up with three 2-day events.
So fair play to them. They're keen!

Thanks for the above Info Wayne

I'm sure one of our Events Co-Ordinators will be in touch to organise something :subaru:

Cheers.
