Need advice on 97 sti impreza

Just bought an impreza with the engine gone as a project,
What I'm trying to find out is what turbo should be in my car or what others would work.

The car has a vf22 on it at the minute,
I checked the ecu today and it has a 7 5 ecu in it,
Can any sort of mapping be done on this?

The shell code is gc8e4ed.

Any help is appreciated.

Ok thanks,
I think I will have to get it up and running and bring it to you to check it over dave,
It has a fuel pressure regulator and a manual boost controller fitted but I don't know if it was set up for either properly,
What turbo should be in the car?

Yes I think that's probably for the best,
As for turbo?
What's best suited for it or is vf22 correct?

I have 98 type r with 75 ecu also, standard ecu in some of v3/4 jdm Sti, most have vf 22 or 24 turbos in them, im sure Dave will sort you out regards remapping etc

I find the following website very helpful regards jdm imprezas, www.type-ra.com

It has database that you can type in chassis and model numbers of your car and it will tell you spec of your car, turbo etc

VF22 is good turbo. Mid range and top end as has P20 housing. If google it get a load of bollix that its best thing since sliced bread. Ignore that re results.

VF24 sleeve bearing.

But in saying that could use any new age turbo. Or ball bearing vf23 or vf28.

You already have vf22.

So map away with that. Dont advise changing what you already have

Rebuild wise.

I have perfect centre thrust crankshafts.

And in stock all new Genuine Subaru bearing, seals and gaskets etc.

Second hand perfect rod sets if need

Thanks for such quick replys,

Im still weighing up rebuild or replacement engine,

But you will be getting the job of setting it up etc ????

I am in the same spot, the exact same car with bottom end failure and I decided I would rebuild the engine rather that swap it. If you swap engines you never know how long will the replacement engine last.

I've heard good things only about Dave so he will be great in helping to rebuild your engine.
