Was on the way to work this morning and I heard that another 350jobs in Wicklow may be lost by the end of the day! How many companies around the country have or are closing..! Also yesterday, there were six people in the company where I work looking for jobs but only one of them Irish...! And Bertie and Co only back today after Christmas!! What the F**k! Aswell we appear to be approaching the brink of a global recession and all the media can do is distract everyone by talking about Bertie's F**k**g bank account :shoot: :shoot:! Ill tell you the Govern. have lost my vote anyway. This Govern is an absolute joke lads

@ paddy scooby agree with you there. this country is a joke ever since we joined with the new euro money this country is going downhill  this country will eventually end a poor country, bertie aherne dont care about this country anymore. see the way they brought in the law about the emissions tax rise on what car you have thats to make up for the money they spent :shoot: england were right not to join the euro :)

Did any of you here on the radio yesterday that we actually have a slower rollout of broadband than some 3rd world countries? :computer: :computer:

The fookers down in africa dancing round fires and fighting wars with sticks will be sittin there lookin at porn while we're stuck 3 hours waiting for the dam video to load!!!

@ blacklegacy as far as i know england have up to 20 mb broadband speed :) we were the slowest country to get broadband everyone else had it before us

not standing up for the government or anything lads but a lot of it has to do with americas economy being so fcuked...

u no wat they say

when america sneezes... the rest of the world gets the flu :hang:

its not as bad as people make out over here, trust me the english are in a worse condition than we are, things are pretty easy over here in the uk its fast becoming a "nanny state" fart in a public place and you will probably get arrested, the social welfare is a joke £75 every 2 weeks if your car has no tax it can and will be crushed, i for 1 love it over here and how many times over the last few years have we heard the economy is messed up blah blah blah, if we were to listen to the "analysts" then of course the economy is going to be messed up because we are going to panic and believe the hype.

Well you may be right but just saying how many people have lost jobs lately...? Its like every second week many hundreds of people are made redundant.

the rest of the world are suffering with job cuts as well, i couldnt get a job for love nor money in the uk, its definatly worse in the uk

this is gas talking about this on your forum, on your internet,on your pc/laptop,in your home, using your elec, all because your love of exotic cars.

have a look at the world news, theres a lot worse out there than us

Hello Paddy,

This country has so many issues.....

Housing been No 1.
With the property rising so quick in the early 2000's, our labor force has had to negotiate significant pay rises in order to afford accomadation.... thus increasing company overheads.... which is passed onto the end product / company overheads.

ECB Rate decisions / Euro Currency
As we are bound into the the ECB monetary policy. We cannot, as a nation form our own monetary policy. This has given us at least a 2% increase in lending rates on mortgages over the last 2 years. This has lead to higher wage demands, to service already over valued house prices / mortgages.... Thus increasing a companies cost base.
The implementation of the Euro was also a "overnight", inflation fueling exercise. With many products jumping by exorbitant amounts.
One major issue that ECB rate decisions created in Ireland (in the past) with the impression of "cheap money" (as in loan rates) and this also this helped fuel the property boom.
As the ECB is predominately focused on Germany & France, they have little sympathy for Ireland, with their "mandate", to keep inflation in check.

Investment in Infrastructure
We did not invest enough money in establishing a proper infrastructure for businesses in the "boom times". This leads us to have a very high cost base for transportation etc. This again adding to the costs to manufacturing companies.

In short, as an economy we have created a very high cost base for manufacturing etc. There really has to be a "reality" check in Ireland before we become competitive again. I am not sure how the government proposes to implement this :ponder:

This is why we are loosing so many jobs to Eastern Europe / Aisa etc :ponder:

There also loads of other factors too... but everything is cyclical & we are in a bit of a downward cycle at present IMO :dunno:

Sorry to bore you

Cheers,

Michael
PS I never thought this would be a topic on the ISDC :dunno:

in a sense i do agree with you on what you said above Micheal and well said but i have noticed over in the uk that there was a high number of call centre jobs going to aisa and india for a while but companies closed them down after a year or 2 as the customer services was so bad that customers were leaving the companies and i can see the same happening here the jobs will come back when the companies come to their senses

Hello Dark Shadow,

There are very significant differences between "manufacturing", and "service", based industries

But as we agree, its all cyclical

Cheers,

Michael

Hi Micheal
Definitely agree Micheal thanks for stating the obvious just didnt want to write all that, to lazy , your rite the place really does need a reality check! A year ago or so Im sure everybody heard of the higher than average wage paid to construction workers. While the rest of the people working in other sectors were thinking, "jesus maybe I should have said feck to college and just went on a building site" :ponder:, but now like you said Micheal, the tables have turned. As someone said earlier in this thread, it couldnt last forever. But at the end of the day they are more concerned with Berties transactions than facing the reality of what is actually happening. Thats my opinion anyway. Maybe the reason I brought this topic up is because with the way things are going this may be a sad reality for many people, and may even come into our own homes.
