car over heating?

well lads driving car awhile ago after been parked up for bout week and half just going down to put a bit of juice in let her warm up as normal everything goin fine when i noticed she wasnt boosting properly it keeped holding back so i pulled in and their was steam coming from coolant cap so let her cool down topped up with water she isnt over heating now but steam is still coming out? any help appreciated
 
Probably need more info Lad.

Model and year of car .

Did the temp gauge go higher than normal .

Are the fans kicking in

Has the stat ever been changed .or has the rad been changed lately and not bled properly .

Has it gone into limp mode hence not boosting etc

Ecu light on dash

Any fault codes showing
 
In fairness i dont think be too handy of an internet forum answer to this

Deffo not the way to cure an issue over a forum dave but may give the chap an idea of what needs to be looked at if a specialist isn't near by and is relying on local mechanic
 
An overheating issue is pretty non specialist to its diagnoses imo
