Legacy B4 RSK Steering?

So bought a legacy B4 RSK RSK knowing there was small problem with the steering, was told it is the steering rack, just wanted to know is it a common problem or any signs I can look for to make sure it is the actual rack or that, power steering pump makes the odd noise too, car is drivable but just annoying at times and can be noisy too, other than that car is perfect but just steering feels really light etc any info would be greatfull

Yes whining, it's nothing crazy loud but comes and goes ?

First thing to do is change the fluid , if it doesn't sort it , replace the pump

As above is the fluid black should be cherry red colour

It is cherry red, and also had a luck under the car a bit n seen the steering rack looked like it was leaking not much but the rack isn't dry

Probably has ran low at some stage damaging the pump
