be5 rear end noise

Sunday Drivers
I know this isn't going to be good news, but does anyone have an idea what this might be. When I'm driving my rear passenger wheel is making a knocking and grinding noise. It happens roughly once per rotation of the wheel for a second or two (at a guess), so not constant. Its as if something is catching but I don't know what. Is it possible it's the diff, or more likely to be something else? Had a quick poke around but can't see anything too obvious.

Cheers.

Diff would be all the time not just once per rotation . Did you check the pads and backing plate

That's what I figured (hoped)

No, could it be as simple as that? Backing plate come loose or something perhaps. Only noticed it the other day, and its just been getting louder as the days went by. Might have a look and see if that's what's causing it.

Did you take the disc off?

No not yet. Literally had a look underneath to see if anything was caught up or rubbing. I'll pull it apart my next day off.
