Sky broadband modem

Well the lightening fukced me sky modem. They want 60 for a new one. Even with tell in them thinkin about changing supplier as out of contract. Tried an old eircom one but doesn't work. Anyone know if I get a second hand sky modem will it work or have they to be compatible with the provider pacific to the house.
 
Sky is using pppoe on adsl line. You have eircom router, it is just a matter of changing settings on it (username and password). I will find those details for you.
EDiT:
You need to call their support line as your pppoe username/password is associated with sky account and it is individual for each client.
 
Do I need to get that info from them or will they change it for me. Cheers
 
Cheers Mark but I'm not sure it will work. Can't seem to get the password and user name I need from sky. And I don't know for sure if I plug in a sky modem it will work without them
