Replacement Key/Remote And Issues

I only got 1 key with my Legacy when I bought it. Its a 01 B4 RSK. Do these have an imobiliser or can I just go and get a key cut to suit?

If i can get a key cut to suit is it possible to get another original remote key. I had a look on ebay and none of them match the style of my key. Some are similar but the screw that holds it together is on the other side.

I've attached a picture of my actual key (well the remote part). I wouldn't mind if I had to go main dealer as long as its not stupid money.

Dunno, but looks like an imobilising key to me....

Replacement keys from main dealer usually cost big enough bucks. Never had to get a key in the south before but in the north you had a take tax book and licence to get a replacement last one I got was for a BMW and cost about 80 pound. Had to be coded as well.

I really don't like the idea of only having 1 key. I'd rather have one cut now and not need it than try and get one cut later on. Specially with it being a JDM model. It'd get crazy expensive very quickly.

Even if you just got it cut to open and lock doors if the original fails and then use original key for driving only.
Some of the more educated lads will confirm if it's a key with built in imobiliser

That actually leads into the second issue. The range of my current fob is terrible. Like 3-5 foot. I'm going to put a new battery in and see if that helps.

I'm curios to know myself.
I also have only one key and looks like it was chewed by a pit bull.

nearly all cars were fitted with immobilisers back in 1996 , unless a jap import . usually one of the following is best option imo

1. local locksmith , pending immobiliser chip type , should be able to give you copy of your key BUT without the remote locking facility , so manual operation only . pending whether car was remotly locked or aftermarketor/factory alarm , alarm siren may go off until key is inserted in ignition ,car recognises chip and shuts off siren . probable cost €80 . im in navan if any use to you or could possibly recommend someone in your region

2 main dealer , should be able to order you in a key WITH remote locking, but may have to be programmed to your car (immob/central locking ).
iv heard of prices from €70 to over €350 for some remote keys . but usually in the region of €180. so maybe get a price of more than one dealer to compare for the TOTAL cost of a second key .

3 . ask google . some very cheap keys on line , and you can tell the difference between genuine . possibly a specialist on the naas rd , heard the advert online http://www.autokey.ie/ , maybe give them a shout for a price .

I would HIGHLY recommend ALL owners to have a spare key (chipped at minimum ) as not worth the hassle/money of not having it .

:hammerhead: ah yea , every now and then i put in a lil effort , so expect at least anoher week before my next one

Perfect. At least I'll have s spare. Now to just sort the remote range. Hopefully a battery will do the trick.

and as i forgot, and rob pointed out below , if its not immobilisered €6+ would do the job .

Hi Muttly,

Did you get a key cut yet?

I also only have one key and was told by local cutters that they cannot replicate it :wall: Got the feeling he wasnt too interested to be honest!
