5 speed to 6 speed conversion....

I'm only thinking at this stage but considering going 6 speed in my 05 wrx. Any one know what's involved. Is it just a case of sourcing a six speed box and fitting it or would other stuff need to be changed??

What reason are you looking to change.

And yes you need few bits more then the box but can leave rear end alone depending on power level etc

That's a good question! Is it a stupid answer to say I prefer a six speed... Also I do a stretch of motorway to work everyday so sixth would be beneficial... Power level not an issue. It's standard at 225bhp. Won't ever be going much higher....

Uk box you need so with the longer 5th and 6th

Seems a bit pointless to me,the box is €1500 on its own, you could sell the car and but an sti

Waste of money for fuel economy will cost you nearly 3k for the 6speed will never see it back from what you save over the 5 speed

5 speed uk and 6 speed uk are the exact same ratio in the diffs 3.9 so it would be absolutely identical on the road except for and extra ratio up through the gears

all uk are 3.54 Dec

I think the 5 speed ratios would be similar to the legacy
There only about 250-rpm drop in 6th at 120kph as I used to have a legacy box in the car before I changed

edit. Dave there before me

What about a second hand six speed box? Low milage one of course....

Lol

Go onto eBay and search for the prices in the uk. Honestly how much were you thinking they would cost ?

You would get away if just doing box side and leave rear end.

About €1750

But then new clutch be wise and the lot fitting

Area 2350-2600

I'm confused!!! If a wrx is 3.9 and an sti as you said is. 3.54 how could you just fit the box without rear end
