hi all.just registered here today-thanks for the wlcome.
was hoping to get peoples advise and opinions on the best way to get a few more ponies from my forester s turbo engined beetle.
i am thinking of forking out on a stand alone ecu,and bigger turbo and having it set up by a tuner next month,if i can get the money together, but before i go ahead with it,any advise would be great.
thinking it will cost at least 1500 euro,so i'm wondering if i can get it safely from 170bhp ish towards 230bhp without having to spend so much.
fairly sure its a european model, with a tf035 turbo.it has yellow injectors, and besides a very short exhaust, and cone type filter, its fairly bog standard.
i have been told i could fit a J2 ecu from a jdm wrx sti and vf23 turbo and should have loads more power, without any other mods, but i really have no idea whats good or safe to do.
would rlly appriciate any advise.thanks.colm

ya,its from a '00 Dave.i forgot to say the only other changes from standard are the intercooler is swapped for a legacy chargecooler, and the wastegate actuator is from a wrx.the fuel pump is a Sytech external one.i dont know if those changes would have much effect on power? but i put a boost gauge on recently and it never seemsto go above 5 or six PSI.is that not very low? i was thnking of putting a spring on the wastegate?

A turbo change for a jdm wrx or sti and map be the easiest way of power increase.

Now in saying that are you looking to cap it at a certain point? As in a hybrid td04 may also be option.

thanks Dave.i would be happy to get anything above about 220bhp for now.i hoping to sort out the rear suspension and brakes over the winter,so i think it might be able to handle close to 300 at some stage.
the ecu i have is a J1.would you have any idea if it is possible to map that?
i've heard of hybrid td04's alright, but not sure if it is something needs to be put together by a specialist,or can they be bought already done,or is it possibly a DIY job?
i've heard a TD04 19T might be good-is that the compressor side of a TD04 and the exhaust side of some other turbo?
thanks for the advise..

could anyone tell me if the W1 ecu from my '00 forester is mapable? or where i might be able to get it done? or will i need to get a stand alone ECU?
thanks

sound,i'm in two minds wheather to go for stand alone or just get this one mapped, depending on price.was hoping to have it done for a drag race on 23rd of this month.would that be possible at your place Dave?

thanks.sure if i dont get it done in before then,i will give a shout-apriciate the help again..cheers
