Hi lads just a question thats probably been asked before but does anybody suffer from slight crunching when going into 5th?
Doesn;t happen when sunday shifting but if you going slightly briskly or anything faster than that it crunches.
If you let it out of 4th into neutral then into 5th its not as bad or sometimes doesn't crunch.
Could it be to do with the bushings in the linkage needing changing? :wall:
Thanks

Sounds like a syncro(sorry about the spelling)in the gear box id get it looked at before it gets worse if you dont its a large bill.

Ok cheers Keith. Will do.
Check the was it you section. Think Andy c spotted you today

I get the same thing. Its the synchromesh in the gearbox.

Synchromesh

If the teeth, the so-called dog teeth, make contact with the gear, but the two parts are spinning at different speeds, the teeth will fail to engage and a loud grinding sound will be heard as they clatter together. For this reason, a modern dog clutch in an automobile has a synchronizer mechanism or synchromesh

Is this a problem easily fixed Andy?
Is it a subaru garage job or specialist of some sort?
Its not a problem driving on normal roads at normal speeds but if overtaking for example, accelerating hard than changing upto 5th its a bit worrying.

I believe its easily fixed once delt with early. If left to get worse then its a gearbox rebuild I think. Im not an expert on gearboxs so Im sure other people will be able to give you better info.

It will get worse try bornabreena(woops spelling) gearbox they are in the book.
Think i heard about 700 euro but cant remember i could be wrong but the quicker you get it looked at the better and the cheeper
Best of luck.

700 euro GULP!
Thanks for the help lads
Need to get my van back on the road so i can take the car off the road to get looked at

nut comes slightly loose on 5th gear, common prob. some just need a tighten, some need a new syncro ring. some of the syncro rings are modified and need a hub aswell(about 650 for parts).
